Have a cylinder head in the machine shop right now that I am having trouble finding parts for. Has a bad exhaust valve on number two. This head does not match the specs found in my Bently service manual. The casting number is 049 103 373C WWO it is stamped VW / Audi not Brazil. It is a solid lifter, not Hydraulic about 104 cm long, Also has five camshaft bearing caps not four. This is a 1990 wagon that has a 8-89 manufactured date. Engine appears to be original. I have tried my local VW dealer with no success. My machinest does not seem to be having any luck. Can anyone give me a clue as to what I have and where to find a replacement exhaust valve that will work?

was there cis-e for mk1? I thought only basic and lambda. Either way, mk1. Definitely not original to the Fox.

Thanks for your help. I have ordered what I hope is the correct valve. How can I see what block I have for future work on this engine. I am assuming that since my head is not the original that there has been an engine swap on this vehichle. I have gave it a quick look over for a casting number on the block but not sure where to search.

    Thanks again

The engine code s located at the top of the engine block, at cylinder #3, just below the spark plug.
