Thread: alternator bolt sheared off..... fml

  1. 04-20-2012 04:50 PM #1
just my luck lol..... i put my fox on the market today and i went to change the vbelts and i noticed the alternator was a little loose...... i pulled the bolt out by hand and the threads are stripped to shreads... and of course its sheared off and part of the bolt is still attached

i have no clue how to even get the old bolt out of there, let alone find a new alternator bolt

any help will be greatly appreciated

For removing old bits of bolt you can buy or borrow a kit.
The kit is basically a bunch of high strength steel screws with reverse thread.
Drill a small hole into the top of your broken bolt,
Then tighten one of the high strength screws into it.
Becuse they have a reverse the thread you will need to turn it counter clockwise to tighten.
Continue to turn counter clockwise and it should turn your broken bolt out.

    Good luck!
I have done this before when a snapped a roten bolt off in my engine block. Thought I was screwed big time, till some one showed me those things

it was the bolt that held the alternator up pretty much

i purchased a bolt and nut from my work and drilled the old one out with normal bits..... shockingly i purchased the correct bolt as the threads matched up perfect

fox is running great and ready for sale!

    thanks for the help guys!

and yes im selling it unfortuanely..... its just tooo expensive for me to own right now (my inurance rates are rediculous)
