Hmmmm.....is it me or does the phone looks slimmer than the SG2?![]()

Just as I'm typing this I found a new link which dismisses the leaked original photo of the new device. Regardless some specs are known and a press release is just around the corner. I'm sure some of you guys are interested, since IMHO the Galaxy line of Android phones are some of the best smartphones you can buy if your looking for an alternative to Apple and Microsoft, plus they also make the best display tech....
Now debunked, however who's to say this may or may not have some styling cues taken from the real deal. Why only 16GB built in? C'mon Sammy, you can do better then that. I know your gonna say "But But, it has a microSD slot"... yea, I get that, thats wonderful, but more built in would be great too. How about 32GB, thats a nice little bump and more importantly it will keep your product in line with competitor #1, iPhone.... I currently have an extra 32GB micro SD going unused, unloved...Originally Posted by TechRadar

Im always putting new roms on the GS2, right now I have a very fast Ice Cream Sandwich rom,

i have a feeling the SGS3 is going to look similar to the galaxy nexus but without the curved display and just a flat back and a square camera housing.
i get this from the silhouette of the sgs3 teaser from samsung, and in the video of the SGS3 in that fake housing...when he has the back opened up, you can kinda see the outline of a phone in the casing...has larger rounded corners similar to the nexus.
that is just my gut feeling.
#4
There have been a million leaks, and all of them have been confirmed as FAKE.
#5
Who cares, what it looks like. Based on past Samsung design, it's all going to look similar.
What's inside is more important, I wasn't impressed at all with the performance of the Galaxy Note. If they want to have lag free performance and good battery life it better be a really interesting SOC.
#6
IMO, the internals dont have much to do with laggyness (well it does, not not really in the day where mid level phones are dual core ect)
as long as this is running ICS (which it will be) its going to be a great device. for the every day user it isn't going to be much different than a galaxy nexus in performance though. sure benchmarks will blow it away, but in every day tasks, there wont be much of a difference IMO. i have plaed with ICS on the SGSII and galaxy note (both more powerful phones than my nexus) and i didn't notice any difference.
IMO, looks, and camera outweigh performance these days since pretty much everything is going to be super fast and there really wont be any difference to the normal android user.
that is just my thoughts though![]()

while i haven't lived with a note...i have played with one in the stores. it was quick, and smooth everywhere OUTSIDE of the home screens. SUPER laggy. i even put on a static wallpaper, and removed all the widgets and STILL got a studder when switching home screens. i think i is just Gingerbread crippling an otherwise great device.
but everyone knows a different launcher fixes the lag a lot....but still not as smooth as ICS IMO.

More videos have surfaced. Engadget did a brief hands on with it and its looking pretty nice.
I really wish Samsung took Apples' approach in regards to the software on the phone and gave us a "pure" Google experience (ala the Nexus) and demand ZERO bloatware on their top tier phones like the SGS3. I mean I'll end up rooting it anyway but most people buying these phones dont need or want to do that.
So is anyone reading this thread buying one of these phones?
Oh ans btw: For trade 1 Motorola Atrix AND 1 galaxy s2 for a 64gb SGS3![]()

Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about it. I'm still pretty happy with my Captivate, but then again, its rooted with a custom rom...so yeah![]()

If he has a Captivate and it's still functional, there's a good chance he's on XDA.God, the stock ROMs for that phone suuuuuuuuck.

Im trying to find a link to the release of the SGS3 video event. Does anyone know where to find it?
Not Engadget, they just have a liveblog play-by-play comment thing but not actual video. Someone out there had to sneak in a camera and record this... where is it!

I spent the evening flashing ROMS until I found one I liked, again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1617785
So far I like it. I tried a nightly build of CM9, but it was kinda buggy.

I'm in the market for a new phone, but the S3 may very well lead me to get an S2 at a discounted price instead. S2 is still a great phone and I don't need to be cutting edge all the time. Even the S3 will be "outdated" next year.
I always plug in USBs right the first time.

Quad core doesn't necessarily mean high power consumption.. in fact, most manufacturers are claiming better they are more efficient. 1) 32nm tech -> smaller transistors than 45nm tech from previous SoCs -> less power to function. 2) more efficient use of cores.. typically you'll only be running on 1 core while the rest remain dormant. The screen will absolutely be a big killer though. I will assume the power consumption will be similar to the Galaxy Nexus's screen since they are the same tech, same resolution, and almost the same size.. It's a hog, but totally livable.
My biggest dissapointments with this phone are the hardware buttons, and plastic faux metal surround. ICS doesn't need buttons at all.

Does anyone know if the Samsung S3 from Sprint will look different than the one from AT&T (I think it's AT&T). I know the Samsung S2 for AT&T only has one large button in the middle and mine from Sprint has the four little icons at the bottom. Also, why do they do this, just to be different?![]()

Another question: Which phone would you get the new EVO or the new Samsung S3, and why?
#27
I don't know the specs of the EVO you mention, but if they were the same as the galaxy, each phone being pretty much equal, then I would go with the the Samsung...
Why?.... The display, thats why. Nobody (IMHO of course) does a better display on their high end stuff then Samsung...

This is the new EVO V and it's on Virgin which is pretty much the same as Sprint. All I can say is that unless it's free. I wouldn't even bother, it's a dated old design with a 1.2GHZ dualcore, 5mpix camera, and only 4.3" qHD. This one only has 4GB of storage.
The SGS3 is twice thing and better.
#30
I think you are wrong on the specs!

I assume EvoJetta is referring to the EVO 4G LTE, which is essentially an HTC One X. Pit it vs the SG3 and it comes down to personal preference. SG3 has the edge in raw horsepower, but not by much. the dual core snapdragon in the EVO is no slouch and is even or bests the SG3 in many benchmarks, but loses by good margins in others. Unless you do a lot of gaming, you'd probably never know the difference in the real world. You'll have to check out the design, screen, etc in person and make a decision. No clue about the cameras.

As you can see the Gnex is completely dominated here in graphics benchmarks by all the new Android overlords.
In the BrowserMark section:
I think what's most interesting is which new device is the battery life king.
The SG3 will easily outsell all of the HTC devices combine, Samsung's got a winner until the iPhone 5 comes out.
