So I read the manual and it stated when your check engine light blinks it is your catalytic converter. When it did that only once, but since then sometimes I start my cabby and it idles low and almost wants to turn off. So I drive it around and I get this funny smell then the car idles fine (i think my gauges dont work). thats the first problem
2nd. I get this loud noise when I drive it sounds like it is coming from the exhaust, but when I am idle there is no noise.
3rd. As I accelerate, there is a loud ticking noise from the engine. I think it has to do with the oil I am using 10w40 but like I said I am unsure
Thank you for your help

Solid check engine light means get your car looked at soon, flashing means turn it off and get it looked at ASAP or you could do damage.. CELs are emissions related. Can be a sensor, coil pack, cat, or anything dealing with your emmissions. If the funny smell you get smells like sulpher (rotten eggs). that is a bad cat.

a blinking cel means a engine missfire. a missfire will cause damage to catalytic conv.

^ What they said. Engine light on means something's wrong but isn't major. Engine light blinking means something is doing immediate damage to the catalytic converter. You might have cooked something, a sensor, possibly your cat.
As for the exhaust noise the only things that really make noise around an exhaust are heat shields and internal bits. Not sure what your problem could be there.
And ticking on acceleration is typically valves. 10W40 is what I run in the winter, 20W50 is usually the best choice for summer. Maybe do an oil change and throw some Lucas oil in.![]()

thank you guys, I went to advance auto and the cel was misfire in cyl 2....sadly I already replace my sparks and wires so they were thinking it was a fuel injector. I bought some seafoam and see if that will clear it up thank you again

I wouldn't be so fast to call it an injector. Sounds like a coil pack
