What the GTI could look like, according to German mag Auto Bild.

Front looks a little plain to me, I would expect a GTI version to be a little more tarted up.

Not bad looking at all. I'd be first in line if it looks half as good from the back side.

I would actually put money on the production version looking a good 90% of that image. Very nice and what we should probably expect.

the other 10% being front and rear-end treatments that will distinguish it from lesser Golfs a little more.

Somewhere I read quad pipes...not too sure how I feel about that. The dual setup it has now looks great imo.

The quad pipes can be seen in the spy pics.

autobild is rarely wrong id say this is 90% accurate based on the last 15 years of watching them scoop everyone with their VW renderings

I agree with you, Autobild is as reliable as the tax man. I also have one observation that make me believe that this is an accurate image.

The hood on the gti seem to be higher at the front and not as heavily raked as what we have seen on the prototype. If the the reports are true that the GTI will get the valvelift system then it will need more clearance for the new engine header. Given that the gti will get a different lightweight hood from the standard Golf, I dont see any reason against optimising the new hood.

Why does the Autobild rendering have a less raked front profile than what we have seen on all the MK7 prototypes to date?

Slightly unrelated to the rendering above, but ...

    http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/cars/v...ward-1.1229539

Andreas Mindt on the future of VW design language, toward the end of the article. Interesting info. They do address the possibility of making the golf 'better looking', but with a face like the cross coupe concept, I don't know...

Hmm..sketch from Andreas Mindt explaining how the Golf's lines flow.

    Good read from (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...toryId=25581):

    "Thursday: AutoStadt cafe, 1515h
Cracking late lunch of currywurst and chips (when in Rome, etc) in the company of VW designer Andreas Mindt, whose most recent project has been the Mk7 Golf. Sadly he couldn't tell us a great deal about the new car, so we'll have to wait until the Paris motor show in September for that.
The upside, however, was that we spent most of the time randomly chatting cars. Turns out Andreas, as with so many designers, is a proper car nut, with a particular fondness for British kit cars. And that he's someone who spends more time than he should browsing the PH classifieds (check out our international status...). He also has tucked away in his garage a Beetle with a 120hp 2.0-litre engine from a Type Four VW bus.

We did talk about modern VWs a bit, too, Andreas penning this sketch for us to explain how everything in the Golf's 'face' is carefully integrated and thought-out. "Some people accuse us of being boring, but getting a simple, timeless design is tricky - that's what we hope to achieve with the Golf." Intriguingly, he also cites the Mk1 and Mk4 versions as the most important examples of the breed stylistically..."

Looks an awful lot like a Civic. I hope this not the direction they're heading.

Only 128 days until we find out.

I am guessing the design will be great.

    VW rarely missteps in design.

I'm pretty sure the MKVII will be a good looking car and if the stats are as the magazines are saying it will be great. From the spy shots of the MKVII Golf the silhouette looks good.

The Wheels Magazine renderings are quite bad and I'm sure the car won't look like that.
