lately its been acting up having a hard time shifting, specially from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th
it will RPM high (4000rpm) then jerk into gear very abrupty, but most of the time it does it normally.
the problem does not seem to appear from 1-2 or 2-3 even though it is not real smooth either.
one time it rpm to 4500 and did not go into gear at all, the car slow down to the point the traffic behing me had to stop.
no check engine and runs very smoothy on the hwy.
this happends alot when the engine is hot like right after i got off the freeway.
i got a few opinions from this site a while back on this matter and everybody seems to agree that
the problem may be THE VALVE BODY,so finally i took my car to a transmission place called A+ transmissions here in san antonio tx, the guy just drove the car around the block for 2 minutes and he said that he also notice the gears sliding, he just inspected the car from the bottom and got to the conclusion that i needed a new tranny.
i have an appointment at my local dealer on tuesday so they can also check the car.
so my question to all of you guys/girls is, in case i receive bad news from the dealer as well i would like to know of any places with a good reputacion where i can get a used/rebuild tranny for this car.
also how can i find out what is the code for my tranny so i can shop around for the correct transmission.
I just bought a '03 NBC with transmission problems that showed up AFTER I bought the car...ugh. I found a shop in Reading, PA that I have been very happy with so far. He rebuilds VW/Audi/BMW transmisisons. The shop is called Autobahn Transmission Exchange: http://www.atetrans.net/
I spoke with the owner, Jason Dubble, and they have been great to work with. I am installing the transmission this weekend. They were very helpful and so far have given excellent service. They will ship anywhere in the country. He gives a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty.
To check your transmission code call any dealer and give them your VIN and they will tell you what you have. The code is stamped on the transmission case but impossible to see most of the time.
BTW, I bought my transmission for $2,895, fully rebuilt with a new valve body. The dealer quoted me $5,500 for a new one.
