Thread: Hubcap fetish?

  1. 04-21-2012 09:24 PM #1
Over the years (about 16) I have collected several VW and Audi hubcaps. I do not see many people running hubcaps anymore. Does anyone else collect them? Or use them on their car even?
    Please share.

Sorry for lack of pictures, still in Montreal and the collection is far west.

my 81 didnt come with hubcaps, it had 2 beauty rings
i pulled all the clips off the steelies
eventually swapped over to some 91 castellet aluminum rims @14inches...better tires and wheels

78 came with all 4 center hub caps, i added some lock nuts to each clip on the wheel
put the 2 beauty rings i had from the 81 on those rims

plan on painting the badly silver painted rims to black.....

Here is the original invoice with all the dealer items listed.

Wish it still had the splash guards and floor mats. Oh, well!

I have a few , the small dish style that came with my current 82 rabbit, two different full sets, and two sets for a mk1 jetta, which I didnt know the rims were different for a jetta and a rabbit. Id LOVE a set like DJGHIA has, Ill have to get some pics of my caps

Good stuff here, I have a few sets of those hubcaps if I ever get back to Michigan I will dig them out and snap some pictures. There individually wrapped, never been installed. I also have several vintage caps in which I made clocks out of.

I'm sure everyone has seen this, but this was my old Rabbit. Figured the caps looked better than just the steelies.

I like that. Rwd offset cheapo steelies + generic hubset = cheap and effective way to get a mk1 to sit pretty nice

    typical hubcaps...hate em
really i do, they buzz and vibrate, they fall off, and they look cheap...

i prefer aluminum rims, or the center caps like these
    the center caps are great

even the "beauty rings" feel cheap and would probally fall off....
infact they want to fall off...

    but life goes on

For winter I usually run these caps on 85 steelies. Most ppl I know really dislike them but who cares
