This is really heartbreaking to do but the time has come to sell my 1982 Callaway Turbo Scirocco #17 of 36 built. I have all documentation and Reeves Callaway's signature on the underside of the glove box. This car is a complete survivor car and has made the trek back to Callaway Old Lyme Connecticut and several shows over the years. Punch in Callaway Scirocco and this is the one car besides Uncle Rocco's car that is pictured all over though often misquoted as a 1983. She shows her age but in a graceful manor. The car is a stage one car with a snow performance water meth injection replacing the original windshield washer pump. The car is far from pristine but that is what a survivor car is. This is a piece of VW history as well as Callaway motor cars as it was the first car that Callaway sold thru a dealership with a factory backed warranty. This one came from the now defunct RT44 VW in Groton,Connecticut. This would be a great example to have a full restoration done on but this is actually why I am selling it.
I need the money to complete my dad's restoration on his 1937 Packard and right now he is approximately $5000 short of completion. He is heart broken thinking that his car will never get completed and I want to make it happen for him. I am also selling my 2001 YZF 600R to try and take up any gap over and above the $5K that he needs. This car comes with a host of literature showing the originality as well as a Callaway Valve Cover. These alone were going for $500 on here not too long ago. I have the period correct Bosch driving lights and even have period correct stereo components from Nakamichi that work. This car does run and drive although not currently inspected.
The car does have some rust, nothing that cannot be repaired, and that is why I will include a 1984 shell with the purchase. As I mentioned it really pains me to do this but I have to do this for my father as he has given me so much over the years. I am asking $5000 for everything mentioned above and for that price I can throw in some other odds and ends that I have collected over the years for similar Callaway cars, such as a dual microfueller, MK1 Callaway sway bar and complete 1.6 Callaway motor. If you want photo's PM me with your email address and I will send you photo's. If you want photo's of specific areas include the areas you would like to see in the PM. Thanks for looking and have a great day.![]()

Why not reach out to everyone and post some pix here in the thread ?
You sure it wasn't RT44 VW in Avon, CT?

Maybe it was Avon. I was just going on the location of where I picked it up in Groton and the guy told me the dealership was a short distance away and called the dealership RT 44. I will try to get an account to post some pics.

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread, but did anybody buy this car? I can't believe that there isn't a scirocco purist interested in perserving this piece of history. I don't want mine to be the only one left.

Don't worry there are still three others that I know of, Rob's, one in North Carolina and the blue one #16 in Maine. I might actually end up keeping this but it depends on a loan going thru.![]()

Where do these people hide? You'd think there would be some sort of pictures of their cars on the internet.

I agree,
We are looking for photos and digging for info for the last decade now and we still find news practically every day.
Recently we added the original welding Jigs to our collection and we saved lots of technical drawings.
some parts are still NOS available through SEM
call me nuts but I love my hobby

Rob is on the Tex and built his girl an awesome VR6 Scirocco in green. He also has the Calypso Blue BBS kitted carbed car. His is not restored but in much better condition than mine. The blue one in Maine you could ask Mattt saddest6day66 as he went up to purchase the car but the owner turned out to be sort of a douche. The one I found in NC is still around and I almost purchased the car when I was in college. I recently talked to the shop in Statesville, NC and they said the car is still serviced there and the guy who owns it will not sell it. That car was immaculate and originally red but painted copper or burnt orange after the owner got one to many tickets.
You are right though we should get some of these folks to post some pictures as your car and mine seem to be the only two that pop up during a search for Callaway Scirocco on Google.

This is a picture of Bill Rutan and his Scirocco that he built for hillclimbs. This picture may have been taken at Mt. Washington back around 2000-2001. He built the flares. They are not a kit.
Yes it is that low. The suspension is extensively modified.
Bill, his brother Charlie, and his son Dan are really cool guys that built some wild cars. They are all spectacular drivers too. I haven't seen them in years since I have been out of the hillclimb scene.
Thanks for posting a picture that brought up some fond memories.
Does anyone have any pics of Dan's awd Scirocco? The last time I saw it it had a 450 hp American v6 engine in it.
