Picked my SB up last week... one of the last ones in the CT/Westchester area. Glad I did when I did! ...now all I have to do is solve my wheel gap issue... ...

Distribution probably works differently in Germany. The US marketplace is set up to have several cars on hand in car lots. I don't think European car lots are big enough to hold more than a handful of cars at one time.
Fahrenheit is a head turner. I know I look whenever I see one. Maybe VW will offer some different colors on limited run editions again.

I thought that it was possible in Germany to order a car of a specific color (of the 36, anyway), and have it magically show up at the dealer at some later date. It wouldn't necessarily be a matter of whether a dealer might have one on the lot.
If that is indeed the system in Germany, I don't see that it would be that much more difficult to do it from another country or continent.
But, as you say, it boils down to the attitude of the company, and for the US, that means VWoA, which is a known problem.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Europe and Asia do orders. US did too many moons ago, but the only mainstream company that still does orders last I checked was BMW. Don't know if they even do that anymore since they are going with trim lined cars with the new 3.
The difference is the distribution network relying heavily on the dealer network based on the gotta have it now US consumer attitude. The dealer network uses statistics to determine how many units of what to order based on sales and demand. To keep costs and aging inventory as minimal as possible, they probably have some breaking point where they say no more because there just isn't enough consumer demand. There's a whole bunch of tracking numbers and processess for each car at the factory so it probably isn't worth it to VWAG to customize a handful of cars for VWoA.

I think you can still do order with the more expensive German brands if you really want to. They also offer European delivery for them also, so there is that...
So without Shadow blue there is only 1 color difference to Canadian list now? The United Grey which Canada don't get?
I wonder if the Platinum Grey thats on GLI is available to GTI elsewhere....saw one today and it looks pretty good...

I'll take #8 please. I'm pretty sure I've seen some pics of that color on the new R with black headlights and black talladega's. Looks incredible![]()

No more Shadow Blue is crappy news. I think it's the best looking of the current US colors.
I can understand black / white / red as choices for the GTI, but do we need TWO shades of Grey? Grey cars just don't do anything for me, and they seem all too common.
I'm shopping a MINI Cooper against the GTI, and at least the MINI has a zillion color choices.

The only thing that I can't stand about the mini is the dash. Absolutely dreadful.

When I got my SBM it wasn't even on the vw website. Definitely the black-sheep color in the US.

Dang, wish I would've known that....I would've gotten a better price off the lot
Me too, it looks different in every type of light. Really impressive color I <3 it.
It was a late production color for the MK6, I had the only one around the area until the MY2011 GTIs started buzzing around. I went to the dealer wanting CW, but all they only had that color in a 2 door. I decided that I liked the blue okay, and a short time later I fell in love. It is an awesome color...too bad it didn't do better in the states.

Sucks to find this out, I just got into the market for one. If I can't get my job to dealer trade for one, looks like I will be going GLI instead, Carbon Steel just doesn't do it for me.

Looks like there will be less color choices for the MK VII which is a shame. I'd like to see more color choices but I guess that would cost the factory more. MQB technology & a 30% reduction in cost apparently isn't enough.

I drove 5 hours to get the first 2013 Shadow Blue in the state of California. It was almost magical when I entered the lot and saw it all prepped and polished. It is such a gorgeous color; it is mesmerizing at times.
