    I'm just reminiscing.

I got this 84 off Ebay in 2004. The PO retired to FL in 87 and promptly had a stroke. The car was buried under all her belongings in the garage for 17years until she passed away. It was a true time capsule. I flew down to Miami and her son ran me around for battery, belts, tires and the like. I freed up the engine and drove it 90mph back to DC.

Then one sad day less than a year later, a landscape truck pulling a trailer full of lawn mowers made a right hand turn from the center lane and took me out. I hit the curb, grazed a utility pole and took out a small tree (once it made in to the vicinity of the driveshaft) . The only body panel that wasn't absolutely creamed was the trunk lid.

That's so sad....all it takes is one idiot to cause needless damage and harm.

Especially to a rare car; although I'd make that my favorite car, too, because it saved your life.

Sorry to post in the wrong category, but this was probably my 3rd favorite car, behind the 91 200TurboQuattro which I don't have any easily accessible photos of. I just couldn't tolerate the auto transmission. The VR6 really is one great engine though. This car liked to go.

I had an 89 Audi 100 that suffered a similar fate. Someone had tried to go through a red light (straight, mind you) by going around the stopped cars and utilizing the turn lane.

My 4000 pauses for a moment of silence....

I have an 82 4000 4E in similar condition, although mine could use a respray and a little body work. Yours looks fantastic. Are you located somewhere in the northeast? I was noticing the foliage, and it looks much like it does here in south central Pennsylvania at this time of year.

Just curious if there was another early 4000 owner in the area.

That photo was taken along an access road to a trunk sewer project near Damascus MD. I'm a civil engineer and always let my cars enjoy a little free-ranging, off road activity when possible. They're much better behaved, I believe, afterwards.

I am in Indiana. It seems that the rare 4000 owners are few and far between. To be honest, I have never ever seen another of these cars in person. However, this car will be making the trek down to SOWO in a few weeks. It will be able to spotted Saturday. Perhaps I will see another 4000 there. However, I will not hold my breath.

I was out in Indiana a few months back visiting my sister. Drove the 4000 from south central Pennsylvania all the way out and back. She average between 34 - 37 mpg...not bad for a 30 year old car.

Glad to see another one still around. I have owned many of these 4000's over the years. I just love 'em.

If I make my way back out that way to visit, I will have to see how far you are from her place in Indianapolis.

I am in Indianapolis. So, if you are ever in town with one of your rides - looking to sell one of your rides... ... you may have to let me know.

or if I find myself back out in Indiana. My sister is in the process of building a new house, so I may need to make a trip out to see her new place. If I do, I will certainly be looking you up.

I'm going, ampd that another 4000 will be there!! I doubt any of my 4k's will make it, but a friend of mine should have his 86 4ktq 10vt there, and my old 2 door 4k might make a cameo appearance.

My 80k original mile Starion offers its condolences..... This was due to an inattentive driver in a Nissan Altima not stopping at a stop sign.. Not nearly as bad but locating an early production 'flat" fender has been impossible!

Thanks Brad. This thread has resulted in opening up this 7-year old wound all over again. I'm thinking as soon as I have room in the garage I need to build a 20-valve 4KTQ. I'll print and laminate an "In memory of" photo of my deceased '84 to keep in the glovebox.

Keep your eyes peeled for this 4000 as it celebrates its new (well, new to this car) wheels and new tires.

At this point, it has received new fuel lines, new brake lines, new valve cover gasket, new O2 sensor, new 02 sensor relay, new wheels, new tires, new oil, and a new coat of wax.... in anticipation of SOWO. My wife told me that I may as well have just purchased a new car. I told her she did not quite get the idea of this adventure.

Love the 4000 Quattros. Had one years ago, and someone ran into it while it was parked and totaled it. My wife had a FWD 4000 that suffered the same fate!

Did find a replacement after all these years. A sweet 84 one owner garaged car. been dialing it in the past couple of months, and it is driving great. here is a thread from another forum I started on it. I was worried when I bought it because it had sit for a pretty long time , but it seems to done OK coming out of its hibernation.

Believe it or not, 90% of the car has original 1984 Tornado red paint on it. the interior is super nice too. I really have no room for the car, but could not pass one up with this much going for it. haven't seen one this nice in 15 years. still needed a lot of work.

here is the link again to the AW thread that shows what I have done to the car.

For those who were curious, the 4000 made it to and from SOWO successfully. I was the only 4000 there.
