Who would win in from a dig? or from rolling from 40mph

I understand that the golf r is the EA113 uses direct fuel injection and double overhead camshafts with variable intake timing. Because the Golf R develops more power and torque than the GTI—256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft compared with 200 hp and 207 lb-ft—a number of changes have been made. The cylinder block is reinforced, stronger connecting rods are fitted, and a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger is used, boosting at up to 17 psi.

and sti is 2.5L 4 cylinder engine with 305hp at 6500rpm and 290lbs torque at 4,000rpm

    both is AWD

I honestly think the Golf R would win, because it is lighter and just a beast . i own a 2012 gti stock and it is beastly fast. Imagine if i add an intake, k04 turbo, and exhaust!

There are a lot of sites that list 1/4 mile times. I'm sure you can find a time slip from both an STi and R with all the deets. It'll give the story of who would win on what type of race well enough if its broken down properly.

That being said and without looking any further, stock vs. stock, STi everyday, all day.

JUST a tune, that'll be a driver race.

Modded stock turbo and a tune, back to the STi.

Even with the EA113 K04 fsi, the hardware on the STi is seriously more beastly with a good size larger snail. Its also not substantially lighter.

And the K04 you're talking about is what comes on the R.

To be honest, you've highlighted one of the main reasons i dropped my golf R deposit and picked up a great deal on an A3q 2.0t with the EA888 once i made the connection (TFSI, not FSI for those who may not know). The FSI in the Golf R isn't much more than an EA113 1.8t from the MKiv's with a seriously updated head and direct injection. Its the same basic architecture. The EA888 2.0t TSI is an all new motor which is beefier in base trim (which the R model is not the base trim, uprated internals and such) and much more capable. The TSI will gain a lot more hp from the k04. Not to mention much more reliable.

Come to think of it, though, this means you've posted in the wrong forum, ooops! The giant TSI on the engine cover and in all their propaganda is bull****, its an fsi.

even the turbo on the wrx is larger than the k04.

but idk how it would turn out, tbh. STI would prob win, but not the WRX. my buddy down the road has an 05 or 06 WRX, full bolt on, FMIC, Manual WG controller so hes boosting 16psi. and hes lighter than me, but i still fly by him, even from a dig, which is weird. we did an AutoX last month and i even had the better times. they arent all they are cracked up to be.

Krieger you're also FWD, a lighter and less parasitic drivetrain than the galph R. You're probably getting as much power to the ground as an STI at least.

The 05-08 wrxs are entirely different from what they are now...09+ make 265 stock and have been known to be quicker to 60 than the sti due to the five speed...mod for mod they will likely still take the r

Yup, newer WRX are no joke. Every weekend used to run my buddy, k04 GLI (TSI, 300whp) vs 2010 or 2011 WRX, all bolt-ons and a good tune (305 awhp). He had me by half a car every time. The GLI was DSG, and my buddy knows how to drive his car real good.

Not sure where everyone is getting that STI's are that fast. My stock MK6 GTI was an even run against a eagle eye STI with unknown mods 60-130. Closed track of course.

I don't think anyone said they were super fast. But they are a standard target and the big boys in the tuning market so everyone wants to compare to them. They do have killer hardware but stock, they are not the quickest thing on the road. A mkVI GTI is lighter and only FWD. My 1.8t with its stock turbo cracked out would pull on them, no prob, even mildly modded. If you're trying to get serious with tuning the car, you get to a certain point and they'll all be comparable. Its just a matter of how far you want to take it.

Sadly it has never seen a dyno. Im sure ur wrx is quick, not saying anything bad about it. This thread was comparing stock vs stock, not a e85 tuned wrx.

Golf r is priced with cars its WAY out classed by.

it really doesn't matter which is straight line faster stock...ultimately, its no contest.

You're right on about the engine/drivetrain. When it comes to creature comforts and fit and finish, the golf is above all of its competitors. If you're planning on heavily modding (turbo swap, built motor, etc) that would be my pic since all the same stuff is getting replaced anyway and most of the advantage the others had with their standard hardware is lost, but the build quality of the "shell" is still there. The AWD system may be more advanced and performance oriented on the others (not sure tho since i'm not all up on AWD's design and function) but there are mods and software out there for that, too.

You're right on about the interior and comfort. I've been pricing 2011-12 WRX and the only way I'd get on is if it has leather seats. The interior is a joke and the sound system is not comparable either. Doesn't come close to VW. I can't really speak of the engine/ drivetrain but I would lean towards the WRX. Also I have to note that the engine bay on these Subaru's looks so so easy to work on compared to my VW.

I just said it looks easier to work on compared to my MK5. Just curious for future reference (if needed), how is it more difficult to work on comparing the wrx to the mk5/6 engine bay layout?

look at the orientation of the pistons, where the spark plugs are located, the routing of the exhaust...subarus are ridiculous for normal stuff like that...a spark plug job on an STI can be a 6+ hour job

Modding doesn't fix the drive train problems. There aren't good fuel options, maybe soon but as of now tuning is junk, haldex is a joke... It goes on

I could go into a lot of long winded detail about all this but having a very good understanding of both platforms makes tugger choice ready. I prefer theEvo but sti is nice to, I guess.

Evo has good cam options, dual dynamic cam timing control, open ecu software, a clutch that controls center diff lock, yaw control, fits wide tires ( I have 18x10.5 +18 with 275s on all corners under the stock fenders), all aluminum motor, list goes on.

I like all the cars in question, not knocking anything for no reason here but there is a reason the r is produced in sick small numbers. Its for a niche market of vag die hards. if you give anyone one unbiassed individual all three cars the golf r isn't the number one pic.

I think the whole fit and finish thing is meh too. They are put together well no doubt, but its really not much if any better than the other cars. I mean, when I hear someone say that I just think your only looking at the surface, its like picking a hooker cause she's wearing the nicest dress only to find out she's got a Dick underneath of it.

For example,I have a few large boxes of Volkswagen hardware (nuts, bolts) left over from some parts cars (mostly mkv and iv, where talking full part out like entire car gutted/disassembled) and I won't even use them on another car. They are such low quality compared to say the hardware on a Toyota, generally speaking. That speaks more about the build quality than anything else.

I guess ask I can really say I'd everyone hasthere own preference but try to really understand the differences between the cars, don't just read mag articles/reviews, I mean hard technical **** sort each platform.

being too brand loyal is boring, get good trades and own each car for a few months. go back to the one that left the most laying impression. Ultimate win ensues
