I had an absolute blast this year at the WiTW '12. Thanks to the help of Duane Messer at Dr. Automotive in Sylva, NC. I was able to tow my car to his shop where he let me use his lift, tools and materiels to fix my oil pan. I put some JB weld in the two small cracks and formed a pro seal epoxy skid plate over that which allowed me to continue the shenannigans on the Dragon the following day and other runs.
The next day Sunday, I made to within 100 miles of Savannah, GA when the patch started to leak a little causing the epoxy to weaken and slip off. Amazingly I only lost a half quart of oil in 100 miles! Not wanting to risk it trying to limp back to the Florida Keys, I called up a great friend in Savanah with the Dub Milita Das Yeti and EgoKiller. They didn't hesitate to offer me all their expertise including an extra 24v oil pan and soon there after I was on the road back to South Florida.
I'd like to thank the group who called out on the 2way radio that the GTI was leaking oil!Additionally the GoRf Canadian crew who came back and took my passanger Tom back to civilization while I prepared the car for tow and awaited the wrecker. Rita the homeowner who let me use her phone and didn't seem to mind 3 quarts of oil on her driveway at all!

A very special thanks to Grant, Abe, Tim and the other organizers who expressed genuine concern for my situation and extended an extremely helping hand. It's been said many times over the last few years, but really, this is the greatest group of enthusiasts bar none!
At Duane's shop off the "four way".
At Dub Militia HQ in Savannah.

Glad you made it home Chase, we all get by with a little help from our friends and I am sure you will pay some good karma forward. As a great man once said....
Its easy to grin when your ship has come in
and you've got the stock market beat.
But the man woth his while is the man who can smile
when his shorts are to tight in the seat!

Amazing tale of community coming together for the cause.
Really glad you made it up Chase and that everything worked out. Perseverance! I think in the end, all of it was worth it for you and that's what matters.

Damn homie, lol.
Speaking of which and I wanted to say this earlier but didn't want to say anything if you wouldn't have been cool with it. lol.
I'd be totally down to help Cajun (I went to culinary school and work in the restaurant biz, karla makes bomb rice too apparently lol) do up some food for everyone instead of the food we had at the event hall. Not saying it was bad but I'd rather put money back into the community per se (cajun's pocket lol) if he's willing to do it up as a way of saying thank you. He made food for a good handful of people this past weekend and not once asked for anything in return. Let's say everyone pitches in a certain amount, cajun and co. and myself/karla (or anyone else really) can help put together something for the group.
Just an idea worth kicking around I suppose. People should heed a warning though, cajun food can be a little bit spicy.
I'd do the dirty work to preserve this man's recipes and help him bang out some awesome stuff while allowing people to try some stuff they may have never experienced in their lives.
Yeah, it was that good.

Great pic. You has them big ole calves!!
If I had your car I would smash unsuspecting ricers ALL DAY LONG here in Texas.
I'd smash the trucks too, especially the Diesel crowd. Red necks in diesel trucks burn my spark plug!
I'd love a mk III TDI jetta cranked up so I could smoke them trucks with a diesel Volkswagen!![]()

I never saw this thread.
Chase! I really hope you make it next year. The run out to the falls, and lunch in the sandwhich place was awesome!
Hopefully I'll find some free-time and make it out to some of the Chicago meets and maybe see you there.
Good luck with your move to the midwest![]()

Thanks TimIt was a decent little cafe, I look forward to going back and recreating that drive with everybody next year. The Rueben was worth the wait!
The Chigago guys seem to be going pretty strong with their gtgs. I figure I'm about three hours away at most to the windy city, so I'll be heading down frequently. Hope you're getting used to the new R!
#27
yeah im 5 hours, so I have to find time to go, and probably have to find a place to crash.
I'm loving the new car, and I already see the money pit its going to be between performance and OEM+ stuff.![]()
