Gotta agree with this for the most part. I have Facebook and it's a nice convenience to keep in touch with people I know all over the world in one place. It saves a lot of time and I can stay closer easier. But I know far too many people that freak the **** out if their phone won't connect to Facebook and they can't update their status every 10 minutes. It seriously puts them in panic mode as if the world might pass them by. I hate to sound like the old crochety guy (but I am), but the world got along just fine before social media and you know what? Ironically people were more "social". I couldn't even place an ad on Craigslist without recieving a bunch of uninteligible texts from idiots of the technology age. I'd actually call the numbers to figure out what they were trying to say and they were like deer in headlights actually having to audibly form a sentence. I shut my texting feature off and it cut over 80% of the idiots out of my wasted time.

I have learned that those chain statuses saying "97% of you won't repost this sanctimonious drivel" is incorrect. It's more like 99.5% and with good reason.

The readability of one's typing is directly correlated to how mediocre a life they live; whether the measure of that mediocrity is by the grades they earn, the terrible job they have, their terrible financial situation, how many kids they had before the age of 20, or what kind of legal trouble they are in.

The number of friends over age 40 you have directly correlates to how many Obama-is-a-secret-Muslim-terrorist-socialist-puppy-f***er-who-wasn't-born-here status updates and comments you read.

Some girls I went to high school with have let themselves go, others are hotter than ever.

1) People are dumb enough to not turn off GPS functions on their phones when taking pictures...and are also dumb enough to post where they're logging into facebook from.

2) Most people don't turn on all of the facebook security measures (which are scant to begin with) and post fantastic information (email address, phone numbers etc.) which are publicly viewable.

3) I'd say 20% of my friends are truly motivated, driven individuals...the rest are sadly like me.

4) People have too many babies...think too much of them...and post far too much about them.

5) Being able to unsubscribe and block apps is a Godsend.

6) The vast majority of females over the age of 25 - never progressed mentally past 16.

^The above is why I have 50 or so people on my facebook...and routinely go through purges. Of those 50, I'm unsubscribed from about 35.

I use a picture of a van with a mural on it I thought was funny for my display picture and turned off any search functions, fake name as well. I supervise some people and don't need them searching me or potential employers. I have LinkedIN or "business facebook" for that. If someone wants to be my FB friend they can either ask me or I'll search them up.
As far as keeping the friend list low, purging "friends", and blocking apps as well as unsubscribing. I love that too. Must of purged fifteen people in the past year.
Facebook is good if you use it for what you need. I use it to subscribe to some people from around the world that regularly post very hard to find music from some older genre's I am fascinated with as well as event planning with friends. Sharing a few laughs and keeping up to date with friends is great too.

People are needy as f#$%.

There are those who don't use FB and that's fine, I mean it's not for everyone. Don't want it, don't get it.

Then there are those who talk about not having FB more then anyone who actually does have an account. Generally bringing up any newspaper article that mentions FB and asking anyone in earshot how FB works again.
