I'd carefully remove it and as much of the ancillaries (pump, wiring, plumbing) as I could and throw it up on Craigslist. Even if you only get $100 for it or part it out, that will help offset the cost of the bar![]()

So the previous owners of the house had this installed. We're not really fans of it and have other plans for the area. It leaks anyways and looks to be maybe about 20 years old. What would be the best approach to remove this? Cut it in half and then disposed of? Will pool places or other business do this altogether?
Ideally what we'd like to do is fill the space, lay down some hardwood flooring and use the area for a small corner bar.
TIA.

So what is underneath that anyway, OP? Basement/crawlspace? Foundation? Hell door? I'm thinking you could make a badass porn/gun/cash/jewelry/moonshine/stolen art safe out of the hole left behind![]()

Nothing spectacular, just foundation underneath it.
Haha while those are all good ideas, I doubt the fiancee would go for it. Unless of course, we made money off of it lol.
Probably just going to get rid of it altogether. She doesn't think it'll be worth the time to try and sell it and I agree.
So my next question then is, how does one go about filling an area like this? Hire a contractor and flooring company to come in and do it? It's about 4' deep, all concrete..
/sigh gotta love homeownersh!t![]()

I wouldn't fill it. I would frame up a trap door and try to figure out a way to hide it with a rug or something. This would be very useful valuable storage. But based on your photo I would say you would need about 3 yards of fill and then a 4" to 6" concrete cap poured over it with about a yard of concrete.

That's a good idea but we've got plenty of storage throughout the house already. More space would just give an excuse to accumulate more crap. Thanks for the info![]()

Frame it and put in a keg system under your bar. There are way too many cool possibilities other than just filling it in.

We've had an indoor hot tub for about 25 years. We use it nearly every day. We keep it full and hot all the time. Humidity is not a problem as air conditioning takes it away and it's useful during the winter.
You might consider having it reglazed, or painted. It's done all the time. I think you should fill it up and try it a few times before getting rid of it. You could get hooked. We use no chemicals, so there's no smell. A simple Ozonator is all you's need for just a couple of users. Party tubs are different.
If you don't need the storage space it's make a great conversation piece.

Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

THIS is a good idea actually, I like that.
We tried it when we first moved in and then she did a few more times with her friends. But we really don't care for it. It's nice luxury to have but not something we need. If it were outside then we'd be more prone to keep it. And frankly, it's sort of an eyesore compared to the rest of the room.

What's cool is that you could put the keg in a fridge under there. There is obviously power running to the hot tub that you could tap into! That would be sweet!
Barry,
Can you tell us more about ozonators? I like my hot tub, but I only use it about once a month and I absolutely hate messing with the chemicals.

Ozonators use a light source to convert air into ozone. That air is sucked into the water flow as ozone which kills off everything that the chemicals kill off.

I vote for the keg storage idea. Plus, I'd suggest using the leftover space as a small wine cellar.Dark? Cool? Check.
