Thread: Smart Car Lease. To good to be true?

I was just looking at the smart car website and they have advertised a lease on the pure model for $999 down and $99 a month. I just wonder what the catch is.

You will probably be required to bring the first payment, state and dealer fees on top of the $999 down. It's DOWN, not total due at signing. That's always the catch on ads like this. It's probably also 10k miles a year, or less. And, you will have to add tax to the payment or bring tax up front, depending on the state you live in.
So let me get this straight? Your engine is 1.8-liters, and my pop is 2?

I think they are trying to get product out the door. There sales have been extremely low for awhile now. I have never read a reveiw that give thumbs up for the way it drives, and at its relative cost theres better choices. Much less when you consider the fuel economy it delivers you can have one that seats 4 people, and has a trunk.

To me the car seems to make no sense. Lets take a base Chevrolet Sonic, and its base price of about 1500 more. You get a small, but useable 4 door car with a trunk. Then with a true automatic as an option which is what most people really want. Also the Nissan Versa is slightly cheaper, and does alot more. So once the enthuiast market was fullfilled they had a big hole to fill, and no shovel.
