98 jetta 2.0. Front disc, rear drums. Had the rears changed last weekend due to no e-brake and less than desirable stopping ability. Under normal stopping, brake pedal would be good until midway pressing it in, then it would go way soft and go to the floor. Brakes are better now than they were before the rears were changed, but the petal still goes to the floor under normal stopping. I am going to try front pads this weekend to make sure it isn't bad inside pads.....just looking for someone that has gone through this as well...

    Thanks
    Corey

Did you bleed the entire brake system, or only the rears?

Brake fluid is supposed to be replaced every two year to remove contaminates, moisture, and wear particles from the system. It takes at least 1.5 quarts of fluid pumped through the system to flush it properly.

If you did pump that much fluid, then there should be any air in the system, and the odds are that the master cylinder is shot.

You can get a new Meyle master cylinder for about $45-$50 with free ground shipping from several aftermarket sellers.

I had the same problem and it was my master brake cylinder and the cylinders in my drums were leaking
