Which do you prefer gas or electric weed wacker?

I myself prefer electric my lot is 40x120 and everytime I try to start a gas weed wacker it is at least 20 pulls to get this to go

I have a Husqvarna electric that works really well for a small lawn where things never get out of control. Looking on their web site, they no longer seem to offer any electric string trimmers.

Gas, no question. Mine is about 10 years old and starts on the 4-5 pull. I live on .63 acres and electric wouldn't be an option even if I liked them.

I do prefer an electric blower. My neighbor has a gas one and it is absolutely ridiculous. You can hear that thing 6 blocks over.

I just picked up a Troy Bilt gas trimmer, simply love it.

And forget string, I went with a solid blade head. String can just get frustrating.

Don't like electrics. The rechargeable ones I have used don't have the power, and I don't want to drag a cord around (that I would eventually trip over or cut).

I love my Stihl KM55 Kombi. I only have the trimmer, edger, and tiller but there's a ton of other attachments.

Aren't a lot of these gas brands coming out with electric jump starters? That way you don't HAVE to keep pulling the cord?

The Troy Bilt I mentioned earlier has an accessory I can go buy that starts the motor for me. Seems like a great idea to blend the ease of electric and power/mobility of the gas.

That seems silly. A decent weed eater from a decent brand will start reliably with decent gas.

Also - you fellas out there yanking the cord, you do know the easiest way to "pull start" small gas-equipment is to "drop" the tool while holding the cord in roughly the same place, right?

You are right, mine is 3-4 pulls, and those are spring assisted on the TB.

Stihl is good, so is Echo and RedMax. I'm actually a Husqvarna fan. Oh, and if you're going to buy one, get one w/ a straight shaft. MUCH easier to get in under things w/ a straight shaft vs. a curved shaft.

Electric is fine for a small lot, but for 1.5 acres I need a gas model. I have the Stihl combi and it's great but heavy, also I don't like that the head freewheels to a stop unless throttle is applied. I used to be able to cut through a lot of stuff while on idle on the old cheapy craftsman model.

Just put the blade on it yesterday to knock down some brush in the woods towards the pond. Do electric have the power to handle a blade?

It's just a 4-stroke Ryobi I bought at Home depot in 1995. Still runs great. Pnly replaces the primer bulb and fiel line.

Wish it would crap out because I want to buy the Stihl Kombi posted above.

I thought it was finally going last year and it was just a cracked fuel line letting air in. There went my reason to get the Stihl.

It's worth noting that not all 2 cycle gas engines are created equally. For instance, my Troy-Built weed wacker is a total PITA to startup. It takes up to 20 pulls to get the thing going. The gravity technique would never work. On the other hand, my Husqvarna blower starts up with 3 pulls.

quoted like 80 bucks in parts, it was getting old so i threw it away and bought a $20 corded timmer lol, makes big power lol. makes your hands numb from vibration.

for a small yard electric is less headache but I love gas

I don't mind mixing gas/oil at all but have you seen the models that came out a year or two ago that use the screw on disposable propane tanks? Seems like a good choice for those who don't like to mix gas/oil and don't want to have an electric.

Even given the convenience advantage, gas (especially 2-stroke) trimmers/blowers/etc. are just too 'dirty' for me. My old Black & Decker corded electric will do anything I need it to do. Gas power equipment emissions are much worse than car emissions.

I've got two acres (about 1.5 of lawn/yard), and my rechargable has more than enough power for anything I try to tackle. I can usually make it through the whole yard on one charge, but if I can't, my Black & Decker comes with tweo batteries, so swapping them takes five seconds.
