I bought my 2001 mk4 with poorly tinted windows. The tint has started to turn purple and I don't want to go through the trouble of removing it.

Would double tinting be a good way to darken my windows while eliminating the slight purple tone, or is double tinting problematic?

Double tinting by itself is fine.

Using it to stop purpling is useless though. You would be better off removing the old tint (or paying a shop to do it) and retinting it.

removing tint is a lot easier than it seems, use a household iron with a steamer and the steam will heat the tint up and it comes off easily. 5 minutes a window. Then you can use quaility tint and have nothing to worry about.

Everyone has a different strategy! haha, well I've never heard of using an iron, but I would like to pick up a steamer.

Check out some videos on youtube . . If you dont have access to a steamer you can use a trash bag and windex . . Cut the trash bag to the approx shape of the window then spray the windex on the tint then apply the trash bag onto the tint for approx 30 mins .the steam will release the window film from the glass (works best on hot days) then use 0000 steel wool and windex to remove the leftover adhesive
