Thread: How much boost can a stock 24V handle? And can i get low rpm boost?!

  1. 04-24-2012 08:05 PM #1
I have a AVC type R boost controller in my 24V GTI, the car is eqipped with an EIP tuning turbo kit, headspacer, 630 injectors, 2 bosh fuel pumps, about the largest garret turbo that will fit, stage 4 clutch, and raxles.

The car has 83K miles, The wastegate is set to 8PSI, but the AVC has 2 other settings to use, they were both set at about 15-16PSI. This is 1.20 kg/cm2, and 60% duty boost. So my questions are, can the stock internals safely handle anything over 16PSI? ive heard stock rods and intake manifolds cant handle the boost?

Also the 60% is the only adjustment that will raise or lower boost levels, why will the kg/cm2 not affect the boost? 1kg/cm2 is about 14 pounds per square inch (PSI) but adjusting it doesnt raise or lower boost levels at all

Also the car doesnt hit full boost until atleast 3500+ RPM, and holds it until redline, very unlike my 1.8 with a ko3 that boosts at 2K RPM and looses boost over 5K. Is there anything i can adjust to make it boost in lower rpm, or is that just the turbo size?

Not sure on the controller but the turbo is probably to larger for lower rpm power like the tiny ko3 is made for lol

this is most of your lag problem right here. just because its the biggest that will fit does not mean its the best for the application. do you know any of the specs?

you can boost 19-21 pounds on a stock vr6 with a headspacer. GT35 turbo and spacer is all i have. 500hp all day

Its a T04E turbo, i brought it up to 18-20psi it still seams to pull good, i really need to get a wideband gauge. But its set-up with 2 bosh fuel pumps, so it shouldnt run lean at high boost right?

It just makes me a little nervous because if i beat on it and hit 16-18 psi multiple times racing around it gives off a burning smell, but the turbo has under 20K miles on it
