Thread: How much of the Tex Concept might be incorporated into the GTI?

  1. 04-25-2012 12:47 AM #1
While the Tex itself is not planned for production, we often see cues from Concept cars carry over the production cars.

If anything, I will faint (in a good way) if the Golf/GTI's interiors incorporate the design shown in the Tex.

Although the brown/red color combo isn't exactly... stunning, that dashboard set up and steering wheel are amazing. If that is a preview of the Golf 7's steering wheel, I will gladly put down all of my money for one.

It's easier to state what will be different:

The hood will be taller due to pedestrian protection regulations.

The windshield will not go quite up so high to avoid glare and heating.

The rear will be longer and less slanted to provide more cargo area.

The A-pillar will be thicker for structural/roof/roll-over support.

The side mirrors will be placed differently to be functional.

The fog light area will look different so as to be functional.

I can see the driver-angled dashboard carrying over. I read somewhere (wish I remembered where) that VW would do this in a future car.

My friend, the only party you pooped was your own when you spent valuable minutes of your life answering a question nobody asked.

I am pretty sure I am not your friend. I just made answering your question easier by reducing the number of components that could possibly be incorporated. Capisci?

The only aspect that I approve of is the interior door panel. The rest of it is grotesque. If the Golf VII is even remotely like that concept, then I'm glad that the Jetta is no longer based off of it.

Figure of speech. I got what you were trying to point out, it's just that every thing you pointed out got this reaction from me when I read it...

Opposite of different, in my mind, would mean the same, this is where I was confused as to what point you were trying to make, since I never asked what "What about the Tex will be the same as the Golf?" I didn't ask that because the Tex is concept car that is actually supposed to represent the Scirocco of the future. The whole reason I bring the Tex up, though, is because it's the closest thing we have that's anything like a future Golf to look at right now. And it just doesn't make sense that VW would bankroll their own design firm to make a concept for a car that's several years from production (assuming it's produced at all), unless that car had design hints/elements that were going to be implemented on future products very soon, hence the Golf and me asking what cues might be incorporated.

The hood will be taller due to pedestrian protection regulations.
Well yeah, it's a concept car.

The windshield will not go quite up so high to avoid glare and heating.
Umm... yeah, it's a concept car.

    *Sigh* It's a concept car.

The side mirrors will be placed differently to be functional.
    It's a concept car.

The fog light area will look different so as to be functional.
    It's a concept car.

So, technically, you didn't reduce the number of anything since these were all things that we can easily assume won't be implemented on a production car... since it's a concept car.

The very fact that there are so many elements that are clearly non-functional and unregulated means that this is a design concept... So I ask: What cues might we see go from the Tex into the Golf?

I thought he was very reasonable. Clearly the concept has some glaringly obvious issues, that while great for a concept would not become production reality. Seems like he pooped on your party though.

Your original post wondered what design cues might carry over to the next Golf/GTI. He was saying not many. You then point by point said, "It's a concept" to everything he said. Didn't you already have your own answers, so why post?
