Sporty, spacious, comfortable and multifunctional – the Audi Q5 has a versatile and successful character. Now the mid-class SUV is even more attractive, efficient and sporty – adding many new solutions in design, infotainment, chassis and engines. The Q5 hybrid quattro, the brand’s first production hybrid model, unites the power of a V6 with the fuel economy of a four cylinder.

    George,

Looks like the Q5 will be the first to get the 3rd Gen 2.0T based on the press release. Can you provide any additional information on that motor and whether we're going to see it in the 2013 A4? I don't recall seeing anything in the product launch information for the A4, but I may have missed it.

Good catch Travis. I'll ask around about it.

Thanks, George. The giveaway is the integrated exhaust manifold they mentioned. Sounds like it will be a running change in the lineup similar to the 2.0TSI was in 2008.5 if indeed this is the case.

Near the beginning of the attached article, it states:

The 3.0 TDI delivers 180 kW (245 hp) and 580 Nm (427.79 lb-ft) of torque. The V6 diesel – which appears in a new, advanced design and is always paired with a seven-speed S tronic and quattro drive system – accelerates the Q5 from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h (139.81 mph). Its combined fuel consumption is just 6.4 liters of fuel per 100 km (36.75 US mpg).

Near the end of the article, it states:

The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 225 km/h (139.81 mph). In pure electric mode, it can cover up to three kilometers (1.86 miles) at a constant speed of 60 km/h (37.28 mph). In this mode, its top speed is 100 km/h (62.14 mph), while its combined fuel consumption is just 6.9 liters per 100 km (34.09 US mpg).

Considering both these statements together, can anyone please explain to me why most people would buy a Q5 hybrid versus a faster, more efficient and presumably less expensive 3.0 TDI version?

Somewhere I read about which models will make it to the US. I don't think we are getting the 2.0 TDI. Any more info on this?

the euro article states that the 3.0L TDI will (in europe) be paired with the S tronic.
Will we get that pairing or are we stuck with the sliptronic?

We'll get 8-speed Tiptronic. I have this in my Touareg TDI and it's not a bad auto trans, shifts quickly and is efficient. No, it's not DSG but it's a good setup. Audi of America is really reserving S-tronic for sports models like S-cars and RS-cars unfortunately for those who'd like to see it more mainstream. I'd love to see a quattro Sport package on cars with 2.0T S-tronic and Sport diff but the way American taste care combined with costs to federalize drivetrain make this very difficult to do.

this is a bit of a shame, but still, for someone like me who leers at the Q5 in ild contept, if they put the 3.0 TDI in it and bring it for less than $50k, I will probably take it for a test drive when my current lease is up. All the same, It'd be a guaranteed sale if they'd put this motor in the new Allroad. Sadly, thatd be like what, maybe 5 guranteed diesel Allroad sales in the nation? The q5 should hpefully sell better. M-B is dropping the GLK with the 2.0L diesel next year, too. things should get interesting.

Audi's first SUV hybrid isn't quite as fuel efficient as it could be when comparing to Lexus RX450h (+10%). Autobild wasn't too excited about it either but they also got bit better mpg with Lexus.
I hope 2nd generation Audi hybrids will be bit more efficient (and catch up to Ford & Toyota new hybrids).

Anyone knows if we see EPA mpg improvement for the 2.0 TFSI '13?
And when will we see the '13 Q5 model in the US?
