Saw Corey shooting this on Pawn Stars....

It looks like it has some kind of P90-type horizontal magazine above the barrel. What is it and who makes it?

    Thanks.

AR57s are awesome... I really need one of these, preferably with a supressor.

The cool part about these is it truly is plug 'n' play like ARs are: the upper pops in and spent casings are kicked out of the unused magwell in the lower. Aside from buying the upper, all you need is ammo, as I've heard they come with 2 magazines already so you're not really in a bad place as far as mags go, starting out. Really would like one of these but CA laws and 5.7 availability/prices keep me from jumping in.
    VW CEL Breakdown here.
My GLI is dead, waiting for new headwork. AEM intake, APR R1, APR TIP, ST Coilovers, Eurosport Lower Front Stress Bar, BFI Stg. 1 Motor Mount Kit, .:R32/BFI LCA Bushings, Neuspeed 28mm RSB, Forge SS w/ S2S, 42DD shift linkage bushings, Verdict Motorsports shift bracket bushings.

And for those unaware, the P90 magazines hold 50 rounds. I think the 5.7 is a bit of a gimmick (particularly because of the lack of the proper ammunition in the states) but it's still a bullet, and if you can accurately put 50 of them on target...you win.

They are fun tack drivers at 100yds. Modify a spare steel AR15 magazine and that will hold roughly 75 empty casings before you have to empty it. A lot of fun all around.

Do you have any issues with the brass being beat up?

I wanted to look into this AR57 conversion some more and found this thread discussing the cases being expanded during firing... here is a pic:

The normal fired casing came out of a FN pistol, the bad case came out of a (I think PWA) 5.7 upper.

It's from this thread, which is somewhat entertaining to read.... http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/57-Upper-t61653.html

I don't need one, I can't really argue any good reason to have one.... which means I need one in the safe

You have to wonder if the upper was really chambered for 5.7x28... I mean wall is bulged and the bottle neck is gone! I wonder if it was reamed for 5.56 which has a case diameter a smidge (1.6mm) larger and 17mm longer.

this has to be the case.

incorrect chamber, possibly even fired threw a 5.56 barrel.

I would be all over them to replace that upper after the first round fired.

In the posted video they mention changing the buffer. I wonder if the wrong buffer caused early extraction. It could also have fired out of battery?

The 5.7 upper comes with it's own buffer. Never tried it with the regular AR buffer I had.

It's escaping me now since I'm out of town and don't have the rifle with me but I'm pretty sure my casings never looked like that swollen one, and that was with SS192, SS195, and SS197 ammo run through it. Was that with factory ammo or reloaded ammo?

It's not my pic, but I believe that was ammo from Elite Ammunition, as the owner of the company took that pic and posted it in this thread http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/57-Upper-t61653.html

He provided links to other threads where people were also having the same case bulging issue, but I would hope the problem would be sorted by now.

I'm eager to fire off a few rounds when I get back home and try this out. At least I'll have a FN5.7 pistol to try the same ammo at the same time.
