Only thing I don't like is that it is impossible to have the window down if it is raining at all outside. Even if it's only slightly raining, the wipers push it to the driver's side where it rides up the windshield and right into the car. No matter how little I crack it, it still just drip drip drips right in.
Yes, I smoke in my car.

My two biggest gripes are:
1. The "heavy" action required to get the horn to function. After 18 months of ownership I have decided that it is completely impossible to "tap" it and get any kind of a short tone to signal other drivers to stop texting and start driving when pulling away at a red light. I have to slap it 3-4 times with verying force until the contacts finally engage... At this point so much time has elapsed that the other drivers are usually already moving and then I get the finger because I'm the a***ole.
2. The road noise level is absolutely absurd. My Mk3 Golf didn't transfer this much noise into the cabin on the highway. A ~30k car shouldn't sound like this on a daily basis IMO.
Other than that, I love this thing.

Agreed on the ESP system!
I have personally found the paint at least on my CSG it be of fairly decent quality. Its actually rock hard paint, no spider webs, no cracking. Chips easy? Yes it does, but I don't follow cars closely on the highway.
My paint gets put through its paces too, salt, gravel, long winters that can get down to -40F (yes minus). I was a detailer for years, I've never seen paint as bad as Cadillac black, and once you've polished one of them. Everything else seems minor

Whoever said to blame the environmental nutjobs for paint woes was right! Water based paints are weaker, but Im going to say that the paint process VW uses makes up for it. My chips are easy to touch up and the white primer or whatever underneath holds up fine. (Its also worth noting that this stupid azz rock company has an army of trucks in my area and they are EVERYWHERE! Also, my buddy has a new Civic SI and that things paint chips are already rusting. Hes not happy. VW-1 Honda-0 lol
p.s. Creaks, clutch and now that its been mentioned the horn effort has bugged me lol. I always toot the horn when i leave peoples houses. They probably think I have a problem with how loud ive honked at times
