Thread: 5th gear feeling jerky....HELP

  1. 04-25-2012 07:43 PM #1
Ok so I have a 01 Jetta 24v, 6spd......I have a strange issue when I go into 5th gear and just cruise(barely hitting the gas pedal) the car feels so jerky, but once I push the gas pedal half way or so the jerkyness stops, this only happens in 5th gear, 6th gear and all the other gears are ok no issues. I tryed to do some research and someone mentioned the clutch switch? I dont think it is the clutch switch cause I cant start the car without pushing the clutch. I took to a shop and he said to clean my throttle, I did this last weekend, was very dirty but still did not fix the issue, anybody know what I can do to resolve this?? any feedback be much appreciated!

well for starters you shouldn’t be able to start it without pushing the clutch in.. unless you disabled your clutch switch.. and you SHOULD NOT start it without pushing the pedal it, its like a dry hard start for your clutch/slave..

    do you have any codes?

I would try to disassemble and clean the TB and Clean your MAF as well then find someone with VAG to readapt your TB... its weird that it only happens in 5th...

that is what I mean I cant start the car without pressing the clutch, i've read about symptoms of clutch switch being bad and they say if you can start the car with no clutch pressed then it the clutch switch but that is not my case, I already dissasembled my TB completely cleaned and cleaned MAF........ I was getting 02 sensor codes, p0140,p1198,p3211, all codes refer to disconnection and faulty wiring, Ive replaced both 02 sensor pre and post but the alarms are still coming back, my vw mechanic says wiring and connection is ok, he is leaning toward a bad catalytic converter......ya it sure is weird that it only happens in fifth gear.......
