Nothing makes me want to more than a dead or dying transmission.

    Here's the situation.

When I start it up and attempt to drive off it will not shift from third to fourth what so ever(it has only done this twice since owning the car but it has happened both times within the week). The engine will rev and rev but it will not shift at all, so I end of stopping and pulling over. I attempt to throw it into fourth with the tiptronic shifter but obviously that doesn't help. Last night it gave me a check engine light, which is posted below.

    CEL Code:
    P0732

    Code Definention:
-Gear 2 incorrect ratio, doesn't seem to make sense because it won't go out of 3rd, I'm not really an expert on this kind of thing so I could be mistaking.
    -Open or short circuit condition.

    Probable causes:
    -Poor electrical connection
-Low transmission fluid level(I'll check after work tomorrow, don't think this is the case though)
    -Failed transmission solenoid

After the car warms up it seems to be fine and will shift normally.

    1.8T Jetta GLI
    Automatic with Tiptronic.
    No engine mods at all.

The big question is who would around the PNW would you take your car to for transmission work that would give a fair price and good quality work?

Thanks for all of your help.

Haha, thanks for catching that typo.

    The correct code is: P0732.

    Original post corrected.

When it does this, is the transmission slipping? Like you're giving it gas, it's revving up, and you aren't moving forward like you should? If that's the case, you are looking at a new transmission (or rebuilt for that matter), since the friction plates in the clutch packs are toast.

If it just won't shift, you're more likely looking at an electrical issue. Either a solenoid, sensor, or even control module.

Yea, I'm not really sure if it's slipping or not. The car is moving(about 10-15mph) and is revving in 3rd gear the whole time and just won't move out of the 3rd.

If you are stuck in 3rd gear it means you are in limp mode on the transmission. The longer you drive it around like that the more damage you do to the clutches and bands inside the transmission.

Wouldn't say we are the cheapest but the shop I work at takes pride in what we do and respect our customers. Not sure if I can say the name of the shop with the advertising rules.

Dude. Same thing happened to me. They replaced one of my solenoids and re-learned the gears on the car. Flushed the transmission fluid (remember when I told you to flush your tranny fluid...?). Presto. No more problems.

Karl referred me to Meridian transmission. Guy there (Chad) does great work and is a fellow enthusiast.

Pretty sure the total came to $163 and some change.

With the crooked front bumper? Yeah that was mine.

And yeah I think I remember yours. We get so many vws in for solenoids it gets hard to remember them all.

Haha that's funny, I was going to head that way tomorrow morning and talk to you guys about the repair and hopefully drop it off for a fix.

    Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
