Hey guys,
So I've had my white 2012 Jetta GLI Autobahn for almost a month now, and I'm closely approaching 1000 miles. The car runs great, and after fixing the off-centered steering wheel and a couple of rattling issues (a few still persists), I thought the worse of problems with my new car was finally over. Well, during my bi-weekly car wash today, I noticed this mark on the plastic chrome strip above the glove compartment. I had actually seen the mark there before, the week I took delivery of the car, but at the time I dismissed it as a dirt mark and saved it for another day to clean up.
Well, I tried wiping the mark down with some soap and water. Then I tried Mr Clean's Magic Eraser. Still there. I ran my finger over it and it doesn't feel like a dent, but looking at it closely it appears to be one. The worse part is, I know for a fact that it wasn't caused by me because so far I've only had two passengers in my car, and both passengers weren't carrying anything.
It's annoying to say the very least, and I really should have been more vigilant about these things prior to delivery. I had a few scuff marks that were on the rear passenger seat, and made a thread about it here.
Does anyone know how I might be able to get it removed, or at least hidden? It's definitely noticeable during the day. Thanks in advance!

That's what I'm trying to figure out! I know for sure it wasn't any of my passengers because like I said, only two people has sat in my car so far and neither of them were carrying anything.
If you look closely there seems to be another slightly smaller "smudge" about 3" to the left of it. Maybe it's a part of how the strips are attached to the car? Could somebody please take a pic of their chrome strip to see whether this exists in other cars?
I'm baffled at how many issues I've had with my GLI and it's only been 3 weeks! I love the car to death but these build quality issues are very annoying. Maybe I should've just bought a GTI, at least those are manufactured in Germany.![]()

This is too weird. I was just in my GLI and I have the same exact defect in the same location.

Thanks everyone... now I'm gonna catch that out of the corner of my eye every damn time I'm in my car!

Holy crap, so far it sounds like most if not all GLIs have this issue! I wonder if non GLIs have it as well.
I actually have an appointment with the service manager at my dealership this Monday to evaluate and discuss the numerous issues I'm having with my GLI. This is definitely one thing that I'm going to bring up during our meeting.

What rattle fixes did you do and how did you fix them? I got a few annoying noises as well

Mine has the exact same thing. Don't sweat the small stuff because this will be the least of your problems as you put some miles on it.

Mine has the exact same thing in the same place!

Definitely haven't seen this in other Jettas with brushed silver trim...
Seems to be something with the parts that went to GLI production.

Has anyone brought this up with their dealer? Response? I have it as well, but it's very minor. Didn't want to bring it up on my appt this Saturday unless someone has had some luck with getting it replaced with a new trim piece without the flaw.

I dropped off my car at the dealership this morning to fix a bunch of rattling issues (they are so annoying...) and in the midst of showing the technician where the noises are coming from, I totally forgot to mention this. D'oh! I'll bring it up when I pick up my car tonight though I'm sure they're going to give me some runaround since I didn't include it in the work order...
On a side note, I wonder how many miles they're going to put on my car this time. Last time I went in for a rattle fix they put 10 miles on the car, burned an entire gallon of gas, and dropped my average MPG from 27 to 17...

My door panels on all four doors, the rear passenger side fender, the trunk, and a little coming from underneath the radio. They naturally occurred with regular driving (only 1200 miles so far!), which sucks because my 2008 Toyota Corolla with 60k miles on it doesn't even rattle half as much. I don't know how they're fixing it, the car is still at the shop, but I'd bet they're just going to throw a bunch of felt tape and call it a day.
