When I was car shopping - I found a total of 2 on the street (Not counting the showroom)
Since I got the SE for two weeks now, I saw 1 more on the street.
BTW - I'm in Northern Jersey and Venture into the city every day.

Agreed. Though that might change. While I am sitting here at the dealer waiting for the transmission update, I see about 20 Tiguan's on their lot for sale!!!

Not so rare in the SF Bay Area, which must be one of VW USA biggest markets I suppose, (domestic brands are the rare birds here :-))
Having just spent a couple of weeks 'back home' in the UK, it was interesting to me that I saw way fewer Tigs on the road compared to what I see here, maybe because the CUV market is just more mainstream here, maybe because the Tig is still a relatively expensive CUV in EU vs other manufacturers, maybe because people in the bay area spend more on cars overall, there are also way more BMWs, Audi and Mercedes on the road here and VW gets more of that middle ground...

My wife said it's due to the pricing scheme..
Tiguan is position themselves in between Rav4/CRV and X3/GLK
so if brand conscious ppl looking at new car..
They either go for Rav4/CRV or pay a few $Ks extra for the prestige of X3/GLK..
Either way.. i'm so happy with the new car right now..

you know i love the Audi Q5 exterior but not crazy about the interior. Don't need anything Touareg or Q7 size....and I don't care for the BMW interiors either except i do like the styling of the X3.
the new GLK is a looker. i prefer boxier type looking vehicles and this is just a breath of fresh air to look at. priced one out and well, it priced me out!
as far as the CRV, i would have bought the 2012 CRV cause i did like the exterior looks and they did a really good job with the interior plus more cargo space and lots of goodies for the EX-L trim that is less expensive than a Tiguan SE pano/nav.
however, VW put a good package together in the Tiguan and aside from the more pleasing interior over the CRV, the panoroof and complete heated seats along with more hp/torque were areas that just could not be said no to while returning decent fuel economy numbers even if it commanded a premium price and gas.
but if money were no object and i was in the market for a smaller SUV, i think i would have liked to try the GLK. it looks awesome. the fuel economy is
i'm planning on enjoying the tiguan for a while.

I hardly saw them on the road, and then once my wife and I began considering it we did notice a few more around the area... though not as many as RAV-4, CR-V, X3, Q5, etc. We live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
Today was a rare day where I drove to work instead of taking the bus, because of after-work plans... ended up parking next to a fellow Tiguan in the deck where I parked. Thought to snap a shot of the rate double Tiguan sighting, but was running late...

GLK reliability is in the toilet.
In wealthy areas around here, I see a LOT of Jetta Sportwagens. My mom just got a nice one.![]()
I heard that some 2009 JSW had a 2.0T...?!
I'd rather a RDX over X3 and MB. I had them as loaners from Acura. I refuse to buy another Honda though. iirc, I called Honda Cust Service and told them about my Tig purchase, reminding them how they FUed me so many times on the 2 new cars I bought from them.

ain't all mercedes benz?
you see lots of GLKs around here; more so that tiguans. it's like x3, x5, q5, q7, glk, crvs, rav4s are a dime a dozen. even the mdx and rdx. some cayennes then you got some touaregs.

Dont seem to be too common in Toronto when compared with CRVs, RAV4s, GLKs, X1s.
I mostly see pre '12 Tiguans. I've only seen 3 other '12 Tiguans on the roads here.
Funny though, since buying one, I see a lot more of em.![]()

This morning, commuting to work..
I saw a rare sight from a distance -
2 VW "Tiguan" black and candy white side by side..
but as I approached it with my white gold.. I realized that's it's a Touareg![]()

from behind, the taillights in the 2009-2011 are circular lights; the 2012 have more L-shaped/linear lighting.
from the front, 2009-2011 have a big chrome face while the 2012 don't; the 2012 have horizontal lines in the front face. also, 09-11 have a flat front nose, while the 2012s have a small conservative beak-like nose.

quite a few tigs out in my area.. Fairfax, VA.. be it we are close to VW HQ. There has always been a strong VW/Audi presence in the area.
I kind of enjoy it.. always getting the deuces![]()

I see a fair amount of pre 2012 Tigs, but I think I have only seen 1 other 2012 since I bought mine at the end of March.
It seems like they are becoming a more popular choice though since I had never noticed one before this year.
#21
Just some data:
In 2011 VW sold 337000 Tigs worldwide, I think I'm surprised how well proportionally the sales stack up: 1/3 volume of golfs, 1/2 volume of jettas and passats.
http://annualreport2011.volkswagenag...eliveries.html
Looking at this March sample of US non luxury small SUVs the Tig has roughly 1.3% or 2659 out of the ~200000 sold.
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/04...arch-2012.html
So yes it is a rare car on the road overall, but like I noted above, depends on your local market. I've had mine almost 3 years now and used not to be in much company, but some days recently I've parked next to 2 others or driven 3 abreast down the freeway.

I see them a bunch in the Southern California area. Plus CRV's and Rav4's. I was just up in Portland for the week and only saw 1 Tig.

Not too rare in our garage, anyway, we have two 2012 Tiggys.![]()

There's like two in our town of 11000. I see CRV's all the time to the point where they make me wana puke. VW's in general are pretty rare around here. Only 2 CC's and two MKVI Jetta's and other than that it's a few MKIV and MKV Jetta'sand Passats. ----Mike

We don't see many Tigs here in western NC and odds are that we have the only one in town. I work in Georgia and spend a good bit of time in Atlanta. I see a more there, but they are far from being common. We see tons of CRVs, RAV4s and X3s and more GLKs and Cayannes too. Most of the Tigs we see are 2WD as that by far dominates what the dealers here in the SE sell. 4Mo is very rare, but apparently they are very much desired. As our was being unloaded off the truck, a number other sales personnel at the dealership saw it and we're about to start making some calls before the new car manager told them it was spoken for.

There's a few around, unfortunately two of my neighbors driveways have tiguans now after seeing mine so for me its not to rare. But I know I m the only one with a 6sp so its ok...![]()

a few....I have seen a handful since I bought mine about a month ago. But waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more Rav4s and CRVs!
I love my Tig and am anjoying always being able to spot it in the parking lot!

Yesterday.. saw two Tiguans..
one in Northern Jersey, the other in Queens, NY. What a rare day.
Both are driven by female.
Did I just buy myself a female car???? no wonder my wife like it so much, and approved the purchase
How do I man up this car.![]()

After 2 years, I still really love my Tigger. The 6M and A3 springs really make it like a big Rabbit. It's WAY more comfortable than a Golf though.

Don't worry about it. Mine is the Wild Cherry Red, as it was the only "color", other than blue (too dark for my taste). I don't want to alienate all other Tig owners that read this post - all Tigs look awesome, but we wanted something you don't see all the time, so we opted for this one.
I wanted something lighter in color, like white or silver, but all Tigs I saw on the road or at the dealer even were white or silver or grey or black. I don't really like the gold/champagne color on a car, so... it was between red and blue. Blue lost as it gets too hot in the summer. So red it was.
Back to the original topic, driving a Tig is manly enough.
Something like this might be too extreme...
