Relatively new to this, but does fuel stabilizer (like Sta-bil) actually help the maintain or improve performance of the engine? I've heard mixed things about it but mostly that it is used to preserve fuel in gas cans or engines that are not frequently used...any help would be appreciated. thanks

Fuel stabilizer is good if you need to extend the life of gas (not the engine). It is useful if you are going to not drive the car for a number of months as gas eventually goes bad. As long as you are driving regularly and refilling with new fuel I don't see the point in using it.

you can use seafoam instead to help clean your injectors, just put it in your gas tank. no performance but at least it helps clean.

As stated above Sta-bil is for those who store their car for along period of time.
Injector cleaner is also a great idea - I have used both, Sta-bil for when I store my GTI for the winter. Also have seen great results with using Chevron Techron fuel additive.
