Greetings all,
By way of introduction, I'm new here. I just took delivery of R32 1784 last week and I've been enjoying it (for all of 500+ miles at this point).
I'm an automotive journalist (used to be the KWGN-TV Car Guy for eight years) and I live in Boulder. I have a pretty hardcore track car in a prepped Lotus Elise and I race on a LeMons / Chump team that campaigns two VR6 VWs: a '94 Jetta & a '95 GTI.
I plan to use my R32 for 75% street (mostly highway, shuttling to / from DIA), 15% dry track and 10% ice autocross (Georgetown) / ice track (Steamboat).
I'd like to know about any local get togethers. Also, if any nearby R32 owners have aftermarket exhausts on their car, I'd like to take a listen.

Welcome! I had an '08 R that i got rid of for my '12 R. The Friday GTG's are pretty cool and Gabe and the Bluewater crew are great. Hope to see you around.

Hi Frank
I took photos of your Elise a few years back. Looks like you done some work to it.

Excellent! Thanks. I'll endeavor to join at some point, but given that I travel a lot for work, spending Friday evenings away from the family is a tough charge. Perhaps I can bring my 12 year old son with me to one.
I do very much want to hear some R32 exhausts if anyone is willing to give me a listen locally. Though I'd imagine I'll end up with a TampaVW resonator setup (not that I've found the definitive thread in this regard yet. A lot of it seems to be forum lore) and a switchable (always on / always off) flapper valve. This seems the best combination of more aggressive tone and reasonable volume levels (i.e. cell phone conference call / "wife mode").
Likewise. Love the '12 R. I could very easily see that being a replacement for this MkV at some point. Especially well suited for our altitude. Have spoken to the Bluewater guys a bit already and they seem like a GREAT resource to have locally. I would have already had them do me up with a UM ECU/DSG tune if 1784 wasn't still under CPO warranty for another 18 months. At that time though, the tune goes in, the noise pipe and SAI system come out and a number of other items. Although 1784 already has more than a few mods (Stoptech, selectable Haldex, Neuspeed P-Flow & supsension, etc.), I don't want to jeopordize my CPO warranty. It's one of the primary reasons I sold our '04 Volvo V70R and bought the R32. One of them.
Excellent! I'm very glad I posted here then. I know most all of the Porsche and Audi (and Lotus, heh) service and sales guys in the metro area and I have great relationships with all of them, but I haven't had occasion to have relationships with the VW folk until now (well, I did have an '86 GTI for a few weeks, twenty years ago, when I lived in CA). I do know Dave K. at Gebhardt BMW and he was working on selling me the CW CPO R32 that you guys have / had, but CW was my last choice and I got respectable deal on 1784 (with a number of very desirable mods) that I couldn't refuse.
Will you PM me so we can setup a time that I can come in and introduce myself? As a CPO car, I'll obviously be using y'all for service and repair, etc. Thanks much.
Awwww, come on now Richard. You know I'm part of RMAP. Or don't you remember my Lotus being on the cover of Euroberge?
It looks a lil' bit different now...

Ross mentioned that you may want to do an updated photoshoot now that both of our cars look different / more wild?
Thanks, I love it too. What's not to love...
Alex,
Yes you did! Great pictures as a matter of fact!
Yeah, my original engine started burning oil, so I dropped a used engine in, along with a TVS blower, so it's ~1,893 pounds, without driver, and it's putting out ~250 whp...
It's runnin'... STRONG...

How could I forget your car? It's part of my favorite photos ever shot for EuroBerge. I just couldn't remember if you were part of RM Automotive Press still. Didnt see you at the meeting.I finally got my membership finalized as a Full Member.

Ahhh, good news. Congrats! I'm traveling too much anymore so can't really make the meetings. I'll look forward to seeing you at the RMDE event in June. It'll be a good time.
I'm going to post up a seperate thread to the Rocky Mountain forum, but I'm looking for stock MkV R32 springs if anyone here has a line on any for sale.
Thx,
