I am hoping you guys can help me diagnose this or at least where to begin. I have been hearing a sort of humming noise when the car is running. It is sort of a background humming and I can hear it more when I am at idle and it's more quiet. The humming noise is consistent whenever the car is running. When I am at idle I can even hear the humming noise change pitch for a few seconds then return back. It almost sounds like it is coming from the back of the car but I could be wrong. Sound almost sounds like a pump or something. It is really annoying me, esp knowing that something is not right. Anyone have ANY idea?

Can you hear it when you stand outside the car? If its coming from the rear of the car, the obvious culprit is the fuel pump. Either it's going bad or something in that assembly is not working correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't really noticed it from the outside then again I haven't RELLY tried. One thing I did forget to mention was when I turn off the car and if I twist the key back as if I was about to crank the car I can hear the same noise for about 1 second. I can make it go off and on about two or three times the same way by twisting the key back. I was kinda thinking fuel pump too...

Then yes, it is the fuel pump. When ou turn the key to the on position before starting it, the fuel pump will turn on to bump up the fuel pressure in before you try to start it. But, just because you hear it doesn't mean that something is wrong.

Thanks for the reply. Only this is now I REALLY hear it. It's now a constant humming noise. I am getting the same feedback though, that it might be a bad fuel pump. I just want to me sure before I go out and buy a new fuel pump.
