I didn't really understand the concept of self-sealing tires, so when I noticed my right front tire falling a little behind in pressure (28 vs 33psi), I noticed a screw in the middle of the tread. I took it to a tire guy to 'patch' and came back an hour later for the results. He says they discovered the self sealing ability so they didn't patch the tire. Instead, they say they "peeled away the area" and removed the screw, then re-set the 'goo' back in place ($30). The pressure seemed to be holding but after a week, the pressure has fallen back to the same as the others (about 33psi). In time, I expect it to fall below the other three.

Does anyone have experience with nails or screws in these $230 tires? I think I'm screwed (pun intended). Does self-sealing mean it gets you to the next gas station, or does self sealing mean you drive over a nail and not worry for the remaining life of the tire?

I suppose I can try to use the tire warranty, unless I voided it by having a dweeb try to fix it.

The conti seal in the tire is pretty much nothing more than that fix a flat stuff you can get at places.. It's about 8 lbs of this stuff coated on the inside of the tire. It's meant to seal small punctures such as a nail in the tire. It of course isn't full proof if there's not enough of the substance around the puncture area or the puncture is too large then it may not be able to seal it properly. I'm sure I had a nail or two during my experience with them and I didn't have a problem the entire year I ran them. If you have a warranty try to get it replaced if you don't then consider purchasing a new tire. If you don't want to pay for the tires then i'd suggest taking a look into a new brand of tire.

Right now i'm running the hankook ventus v12's and i'm loving them.

I had the same experience (punctured conti) exactly 1 year ago. 5000+ miles later, no issues to report - the tire has held up pretty well.
