Adam Sessler Leaves G4

Sad news, X-Play & AOTS are the only reasons to watch G4 and I've watched Adam & Morgan since almost the beginning. Which also means that I've watched G4 go downhill over the years (Cheaters, COPS, Campus PD for example).

Longtime gaming personality Adam Sessler is no longer at G4, the TV host's representative said today.

Here's a statement from Sessler's representative:

Television personality Adam Sessler and TV network G4 are parting ways, with Adam's last episode as host of G4's "X-Play" airing on the network today, Wednesday, April 25. Adam has been hosting the show since it first aired as ZDTV's "Gamespot TV" in July 1998 and he also served as Editor In Chief of games content at G4. His current projects include starring as himself in the Summer 2012 movie "noobz" and consulting with a film production company on theatrical feature adaptations of video games. Adam intends to stay in front of the camera and continue as a key voice within the games industry. He also sings and is available for weddings and bar mitzvahs.

X-Play, which has been televised in various forms since 1998, is a popular G4 fixture that was most recently hosted by Sessler and fellow television personality Morgan Webb.

We heard about this news last week via an anonymous source, but we were not able to confirm its validity. According to our sources, Sessler is leaving due to a contractual dispute, and the departure was not on amicable terms.

We are following up with G4TV for more information.

Update: Sessler took to Twitter this afternoon to address the news.

"Thank you to everyone with your exceedingly kind wishes and thoughts," he wrote. "I think I'll finally take a nap..."

Update 2: In response to Kotaku's request for comment, a G4 representative said:

I heard about this last night while watching WNF... quite sad. I was sad to see him leave Feedback also, and now it's under 40minutes instead of 55+.. Why!!!!!!!!!!

I used to watch G4 a ton but it's been a year+ that I haven't really seen much of it. A few of their gaming shows like xplay and even atos I dug a lot but the network got worse and worse by adding all these cop shows. And I don't mind the cop shows but cmon!!!

Same here. I can't stand the cop shows and other crap that's on the channel now. Only shows the fiancee and I watch are AoTS and X-Play. Shame about Sessler, I'm sure we'll be hearing from him again though.

American Ninja Warrior is pretty good, between the American tryouts, the training camp, and the actual competition in Japan. All of the other shows aren't so great, I would agree.

Any idea who is going to be his replacement? I think Blair Herter would be a good candidate, pretty sure he has filled in for Adam before.

Sort of off topic but still related to G4, what is everyones consensus on AOTS?

AOTS.. I could live without. Some segments are awesome (when tech related) others should just be left on MTV or Spike.

Right now X-Play and AOTS are the ONLY tech related shows left on the network. There really wasn't even much coverage of PAX and E3 coverage is getting shoved into 30 min slots now.

I like AOTS, Xplay and Bomb Patrol Afghanistan. Ninja Warrior is good to. All them cop shows need to be taken down, so can campus pd. I don't care to watch a bunch of drunk college kids.

Kevin Pereira did one of those IAMA sessions on Reddit recently and said he/they are working to get rid of all the Cops/Cheaters/Campus PD crap in favor of more tech/gaming focused programs.

Shame about Adam Sessler though, hopefully we'll see him land someplace soon.

10 minutes late, I'll have to catch it the re-run tonight and see him say it for himself.

Now what'll happen? Next couple of weeks leading up to his departure should be interesting for both the show and the network . . this will hurt them even more with Sessler already gone.

I caught the re-run last night, Kevin announced it himself (as the others stated) but that they would look back on his 10 history later on throughout the month. IMO, AOTS is what it is with Kevin and Candice, they may not be as better as Kevin and Olivia but they are still very much enjoyable and watchable. It is one thing to replace Olivia, but without Kevin too, it wouldn't be really original anymore.

I'm curious to see where they'll go, network and show wise. It is a little odd that him and Sessler would both leave at the same time within what, 2 weeks? Something is going on over there behind the curtains . .

Pretty shocking to hear about Kevin - hope they bring back Olivia for his last episode. The show is definitely not as good since she left, and with Kevin gone, I have my doubts that the show will last.

Her show on NBC has already come and gone. Got cancelled after two episodes. She should just stick to PETA ads at this point.
