I have an 86 cabby. Passed smog last year but failed due to high NOx this year. I plugged any obvious vacuum leaks and slightly retarded the timing (still btdc but less than the 6 degrees)
This helped, but it still failed by a pretty good margin (almost 2:1)
I hate to fix the problem just by throwing money at it. The car seems to run GREAT. seems to. good power at all speeds.
Any suggestions? Also VW Specialties in Huntington Beach is currently closed and will reopen at a date TBD under new ownership. In the meantime- can anyone direct me towards another socal VW specialist or can I trust my cabby to an average smog fix it shop?
Thanks in advance!!
