im riding on raceland coilovers in my passat. with the weight of the passat they ride really well and only cost around $400. look up the kit for a mk2 or mk3 golf or jetta. the only thing needed to make them work is the lower rear shock bolt and nut from a mk2(85-92) or mk3(93-98) golf or jetta

if you dont like the central locking system simply unplug the pump. not sure where its located since i have a wagon but its most likely somewhere in the trunk

You can go with the Racelands, but if you're willing to spend the extra $100 I suggest the Solowerks. IMO, they ride a bit better than the Racelands.

As for your central locking, if the pump is working then you might have a few vacuum lines that have come undone. No better way to get acquainted with a car than to start ripping it apart.

Stick with the locking system you got, its one reliable system.
Plus, tearing apart everything to switch to an electrical system is way more work.

If your lucky, its just the cental pump in the trunk, if not, check on which door closes and which do not.
