There absolutely is still a GT (turbo) for 2012.

Looking back on these, this body style was amazing. What the heck did Subaru do to the Legacy? Even worse there's no 4 Cyl Turbo as of 2012.. just a 4 cyl and 6 cyl.
Subie's aren't terribly popular in TX like they are in Colorado (they're everywhere up there).. so finding much used in this area is pretty impossible.
Also.. B Spec! Jebus... so nice.

Don't quote me although I'm pretty active on the 4th gen Outback/ Legacy forums. I remember reading on those forums that only 20 2.5GT Legacy's were made for the entire model year 2012 run. My Subaru dealer had one listed on their website as "In transit" was very seriously going to trade our '11 Outback for it but it sold as soon as it hit the lot
What sucks is that for 2013 they changed everything that was boring about the '10-'12 Legacy IMO, more reason to keep the 2.5GT going![]()

its a great car, hell id love to own one but i prefer the wagon version and its damn near impossible to find.
my dad has an 09 legacy he bought brand new almost 3 years ago. and other than an airbag light (which was taken care of under warranty) hes had zero issues with it. and i mean ZERO. he had to put tires on it at 22k and thats about it other than routine maintenance. timing belt isnt due til 105k on these cars either. these also have the updated headgaskets which dont leak but i guess time will tell.
the new current legacy feels like subaru went backwards in terms of styling and the interior is ugly compared to the old one. almost looks like something that came from south korea.

And I'd rather have a 3.6 in the newer, roomier body as opposed to a crammed older body - especially if that 2.5 turbo is going to be saddled down with an automatic. Even though the old body style is a looker.

Plenty of room for rear passengers. I often drive 4 to lunch. I have had rear seat passengers once for a long road trip. Four adults, one toddler in a baby seat and luggage for all on a ski trip. The car was packed tight, but it worked.
Major issues? Watch for oil consumption. There is a nagging little T fitting under the intercooler that has popped off a couple of times. Nothing major, just need to remove the intercooler to fix it. If you treat it well, the car will be very good to you.
I have not had this issue, but high horsepower cars like to blow transmissions. The 6 speed cures that however. I am stock minus a catless uppipe in the engine dept. I do have some suspension work done.
Had some rotor warpage issues early on with the car, but a good set of replacement rotors appears to have fixed that.

I owned a 2007 2.5i Limited for about a year and half. Good handling, decent brakes, decent AWD. With that said, the inside was cramped... back seat had nominal legroom and poor headroom. Although comfortable, the front has poor headroom and was cramped, as it is a surprisingly narrow car inside and hard to move around (to say get something from the passenger seat / floor or the back seat). It was ok for me (6 Feet, 180 Lbs.), but taking my co-worker, who is about 6'3" and maybe 250, was like watching an ape sitting in a Mini.
Aside from that, the 4-speed auto is a horrendously awful transmission. It is slow and clunky. I can't say the same for the 5-speed in the GT as I have not driven it, but I wanted the limited trim, which only came in auto.
All things aside, I still find myself looking at these cars anytime I see them. Subaru absolutely NAILED the exterior styling. I think this car may very well be the best looking Subaru to date.

Well, Schmosby and I disagree on the rear seat room. I guess it depends on your level of comfort needed. It is not a Maybach, but it is also not a Fiat 500 back there. Extremely cramped is not a word i would use to describe it.
I will snap a pic later today behind the drivers seat with me sitting in the back. I will not adjust the drivers seat from my driving position (about 6' tall).

A good friend of mine has an 06 Spec B Limited he bought brand new and still drives. Nice brown leather interior with nav. He owned two WRXs before it; this first was a bug eye wagon with an auto transmission that he totaled. The second was a bug eye sedan.
He had to replace the turbo in the GT a couple years ago because the oil pickup had some sort of failure. Other than that it's been a great car. I like that most folks have no idea what kind of performance this car has. It definitely gets up and goes, but it's comfortable. If I owned it I would have a hard time not upgrading the exhaust to make some nice noises.

That's fine. Compared to the other sedans of the time, it was on the small size, though. The new Legacy fixed that all up, but it sacrificed style for it.
I'm not ragging on the car at all, I wanted to buy one before I pulled the trigger on my GTI 6 years ago. I was still in college an single at the time, so rear seat room wasn't a concern![]()

I'd like either a sedan or a wagon with the auto for commuting.
Don't they have headgasket issues and whatnot? Is that just the 2.5T or also the 3.6R?

My biggest complaint with the new model line is the smaller cargo area. The sales people will tell you that it's larger. I said "yeah, if I stack my grocery bags on top of each other". They bumped the rear seat back to create leg room, then raised the roof to claim more cargo room. I frequently load up the rear with stuff, and it would be more of a challenge with the smaller cargo area in the newer model (disclaimer: I know that it's technically larger due to the hight).
I've been on road trips with two adults and a large Britax car seat in the back. It's tight, especially with the car seat. I certainly wouldn't want to be back there on a long trip. I think my A2 jetta had more room. We've considered getting a different car specifically to address the small back seat, so it is an issue that can be overlooked.
Other than that, my only gripe is that the gadgets on the inside are somewhat limited given the year of the car. You can upgrade to a mirror with a compass etc, but it doesn't come factory (I have an outback limited). There is no bluetooth, and the premium radio is marginal. Compared to something like a low-end Acura, the electronics are dismal.
