I recently blew my driver's side axle from the inner cv joint. i took it to the shop of a friend of my friend and they can't find an axle that fits my gti. The mechanic claims he's tried 7 different axles and none fit.
Anyone have any experience with this problem? It's been a week waiting for my gti just for an axle =/
    thankss

Never heard of such an issue with finding an Axel for a 24v..
but then again if you are trying to use a bunch of local parts suppliers they do not seem to list parts for the 24v cars, they all list parts for 12v's... its pretty ****ing annoying!!
most of the time its a dealer only part on the 24v.. and OEM axels are not cheap for our cars..

have you considered maybe ordering a Raxel? http://www.raxles.com/
it will cost you about $380 shipped to your door and come with a lifetime warranty... If your low this is the way to go! if not, it still the way to go...

    or,
    ECS- OEM Axel http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...haft/ES307653/
cheaper version that I do not recomend. Esp if you are low..

or you could try a few local VW scrap yards..
    VW Parts 1-800-vwparts
or this on in NJ 1-888-vwpart1

Yea they tried going by the VIN and it displayed the parts for an 02, which I'd think is the 12v/5spd. He said he was even trying parts from 04s. I finally called VW they said the aftermarket axles, because they're cheap, either don't fit (he installed it into mine and the boots were basically compressed because it was to long) or they just break.
So anyway Monday we're expecting a used one from an 04. That should work. If not... f it... I'm spending $400 on a new one from VW i don't care.
It's been a week without my GTI and it's making me crazy ha.

Hey, I just had this same problem. I had 2 different axles come in, but they were too long. I assume they were from a 5 speed. I then ordered the aftermarket axle listed above from ECS for $105 plus shipping. I did consider a Raxle, but if you're low on cash like me, you probably understand. I've had it in for 2 weeks and haven't had a single problem. I'm not saying it's bulletproof, but it works. But yeah, as far as finding one goes, you have:

    -new oem for about $600
-used oem from a junkyard for probably $100-$150
-Raxle for $349.95 (I actually emailed and was quoted this, also comes with lifetime warranty)
-EMPI from ECStuning for ~$120 shipping included

If I had the money I'd have gone Raxle, but my clutch fluid bleeder valve went the other day and cost me even more money...

Go with a raxle. I just put in an EMPI one 3 months ago, and Monday morning it blew on me.

Just the brand name I think

$150 isn't bad for an OEM one. Here's hoping it doesn't go on you again

Best bet to go with a raxle if it breaks send it back (Marty the owner) is one of the coolest dudes ever and will help you out. You might spend a little more $$ now but at the end of the day it will pay for its self
