I have a game called World Racing 2, while not meant to be a simulator it has a tons of cars that people have made for it. I have downloaded a lot of cars, but the physics seem too similar for all cars, wish that was different then I'd play it more, especially since the cockpit of every car is modeled pretty well.

Are there any phone app racing games that don't suck?

I have tried a few, and they all are way more akin to boating than driving.
I can only assume the basic program for a BAD driving game is very simple (and possibly even a "copy-paste" type program), so it is an easy app to make.

I was totally disappointed after playing Gran Turismo 5. One of the reasons why I bought Ps3 . God I was stupid.

Any Nfs game after Carbon sucks all year long.

i don't know why i even bother reading jalopnik anymore, but here's a dull article about the best racing games from a racing driver:

i think the folks that run the GT Academy might disagree with his statement, especially Lucas Ordóñez who, after winning the competition, stood on the podium during Le Mans 2011.

Gran Turismo is not the best, and certainly not the worst, but comparing console video games to pc sims isn't completely fair (in my opinion).

in many ways i agree. I think anytime you have to design a game/sim to be used with controls that are nothing like the object you are simulating, there are going to be problems. Also, i can't stand the "tuning" exploits that take advantage of messed up physics properties. Things like: Max down force rear, highest suspension setting front, lowest suspension setting rear, medium downforce front and the car drives better than "stock".

I would agree that for the masses they really goofed this game up with the controller.

However for those of us with Logitech G27 wheels it is awesome. It's not perfect but it does offer a great "driving" experience.

The out of the box performance of GT5 with wheel is very good. Much better FFB than say Shift or the Dirt series...

On PC those game can be tuned through setting(as well as other games on PC) to have better FFB, but for console I think PD got a lot of it right.

I just can't get past the audio. It's a complete joke. How can you get a good driving experience from a game that's basically still using the same sfx from GT1? Sounds are a MASSIVE part of a good driving sim.

I just don't even understand how they think it's acceptable, let alone "good".

    That's one of many reasons I can't stand GT5.

I think the sound differs from car to car...on 5.1 system they sound ok. But some car just doesn't have the sound you expect it to make, while others seems quite spot on. As a trade-off though(it really shouldn't be), better driving dynamic trumps the engine sound for me though...

As a game though I think GT5 is not that great. AI is poor and there are little in the ways of rewards for player to continue advancing. For me though the entire GT series has been more of a "jump in and drive a few laps" experience. And the variety of cars and the difference in dynamics between different cars is good enough to offer different experience.

IMO, both are required before you can even be considered a decent driving sim.

It was just a huge let down in that they had enough time to put out 3 mediocre games and released one. Premium cars are a joke; all the cars should have the same amount of details instead of saying that you get the better textures with some and you're stuck with crap textures on the rest. The tuning is laughable compared to the other game. It's not that you can't switch engines, it's that you can barely do anything to the cars at all. It's like they took a step back from the last entry in the series. Handling is atrocious; I'm sorry, but I don't think you should have to stop at a turn just to make it through.

And don't get me started on the loading. The loading is why I murdered my ex wife.

    P.S. I don't have an ex-wife.

Lucas certainly has some skill but folks keep forgetting he was a KART racer for many years when young prior to the competition even existed. He also received many weeks (like 4-8) of private race driving lessons from the Nissan racing team. He stood on the podium along with the other 2 drivers. Kid has some skill for sure but GT was just a marketing ploy and feeder to get him to the actual academy.

Too many folks point at him as the poster child as if GT is the sole reason why he became a race driver. It was through GT competition that he got the chance but it wasn't because of GT on where he learned and honed his driving skill.

Porsche Unleased was one of the best NFS game for me....the cars drove like Porsches, pretty good graphic for its day. Only thing is its typical NFS tracks...I do like they have point-to-point track though, made it interesting...

they either need to bring back or make a game very similar to tokyo extreme racer. It came out on dreamcast and ps2.

Very awesome games... All the street racing with none of the stereotype street racer bro-douchery.

Genki was going to make an online version, but they ran into financial trouble and discontinued it. I heard they made a mobile phone racing game recently, but no news of a proper Shutokou Battle/Tokyo Xtreme Racer coming out anytime soon..

Genki brought out Import Tuner Challenge early in the 360's life (published by Ubisoft) which was the same old game all gussied up. I picked it up in some store's bargain bin for $20 a few years ago and haven't even taken the wrapper off. Gotta give it a shot sometime, I loved Tokyo Xtreme Racer.

What do you guys think about NFS World Online for PC? The game is totally free until you want to get better cars and upgrades like lowering kits, window tint and body kit.

Automodellista, I really wanted to like it but the handling was terrible.

But the game's non-racing aspect was fairly interesting, as well as the graphics on the then new PS2.

My all time worst racing game experience? Initial D Mountain Vengence

Second worst: Need for Speed Shift
    War Eagle!

    1. NFS Pro Street
    2. NFS Undercover
    3. NFS Shift
    4. NFS Shift 2
    5. NFS Run (I only played demo on xbox)
    6. Gran Turismo 5 (one of the reasons why I bought ps3)
    7. Street Racing Syndicate
    8. NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 ( what a differene If you compare this game with Hot Pursuit III from 1998)
    9. Blur
    10. Juiced (Handling of RWD cars was unacceptable.)

Okay. GRID was really fun, if you put the difficulty all the way up. There are a lot of things GRID has done that no other racing game does as well.

I personally enjoy the Midnight Club Games, yeah, they're arcade-y, but Midnight Club: LA has the online mode that every NFS should have had.

I loved NFS Underground, Underground 2, all the Hot Pursuits including the newest one, and most of all the original NFS Most Wanted. Need for Speed 2 SE was also brilliant.

Worst game I've ever played: definitely Porsche Unleashed for PS2.
