I was sort of dissapointed by the lack of any Super Sonic.

In the end I feel that there are two things which a life may be judged by:
How enjoyable said life was for the person living it.
How much more enjoyable said life made the life of others.
If someone lives their life unobtrusively and finds enjoyment though video games, far be it from me to take that away.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with playing games. I play games. I just said that they are a waste of time. They are, IMO, a waste of time. They have no value. If I go to the range I polish my shooting skills. If I read I learn stuff. If I exercise I become more healthy and fit. What do you get from video games? Enjoyment. Which is great, just not particularly valuable.
I expect that you do, in fact, understand my point. People get addicted to drugs because they are enjoyable at first. If being a drug addict started off like it ends up no one would ever become a drug addict. If you need me to I'll clarify. "Using heroine the first time is a safe bet?"

Sure, there's a point where games become a problematic addiction (just look at South Korea).
But for the majority of gamers, they're no different than a movie buff or sports buff. It provides a form of entertainment in our lives that (usually) leads to nothing except happiness.

Nor do I. I never said there is anything wrong with wasting some time on video games. Just that it is a waste of time.
Good lord you people are awefully up tight about your video games. Is it necessary to rationalize the time you spend with them into something useful? You can't just admit...yeah I'm gonna go waste some time playing video games? Or does everyone equate wasting time with doing something wrong and therefore interpreting my post as accusatory?
#25
Your post isn't accusatory, just stupid. The word waste is negative by definition. You're contradicting yourself by saying that you're wasting time, but it's not a bad thing.
SOAR explained your own point more eloquently than you did, and you shot him down for some reason. Time enjoyed is never wasted. You don't need to be productive every waking moment of the day.

Which is the equal of, "If it feels good, do it". Not a good way to look at life, hence my comment about drugs. Productive people have goals aside from enjoyment...rationalizing wasted time as "well it was fun so it wasn't wasted" is sticking your head in the sand.
That's ironic because, to me, claiming that time spent with absolutely no return isn't wasted is stupid. If you are going to go waste some time to have some fun, whether it be partying...playing video games...or rubbing one out, have the sack to man up and say you are going to waste some time to have some fun. There's nothing wrong with that but don't sit there and tell yourself that you're being productive, you're not.

Having fun is a waste of time. Got it.
I never said video games are productive. As I said in my last post, you don't need to be productive every waking moment of the day. A little time set aside for some fruitless diversion isn't a waste of time, it's just a diversion.

After reading this post I, again, don't think any of you are saying anything different than I am. You just don't like the term "wasting time" whereas it doesn't bother me in the least. I don't see "wasting time" as a derogatory statement, it just means you're not being productive. I completely agree that people can't and shouldn't be productive 100% of the time, hence wasting time not being a derogatory term to me. I think we're into the realm of semantics at this point. As I stated, I play games too...my statement was never meant to be inflammatory just simply that I don't agree with the whole "if you're enjoying yourself you're not wasting time" thing...that just doesn't make sense to me. Some fun things can be productive, some of them aren't but just having fun in and of itself doens't make an act productive, therefore having fun can definitely be wasting time.
