...I pulled out around a tractor/trailer going up a hill, to see a large rectangular block in the lane. I swerved left, but with oncoming traffic I nailed it with the right front tire: 1" cut near the bead

Hit a piece of a semi truck tire the other day. It damaged the plastic bits under the car, don't think it damaged anything else yet, we will see when i put it on a lift. I made a claim to my insurance and I'm waiting to see what they say.
Last pic unrelated, I just want to rub in the fact that I live in beautiful Hawaii.

Friend of mine drives 160 mi. round trip each day. He had a 2009 Mazda 6 V6 Touring model (the nice, expensive one). Kept complaining about how horrible the gas mileage was and how fuel was raping him. He hit something on the Interstate a couple weeks ago and destroyed the entire underside of that Mazda. Gave him an excuse to go buy a fully loaded 2012 Passat TDI and cut his fuel bills in HALF.![]()

Yup, been there and done that. Good luck getting insurance to cover it. From my understanding (when I had the same thing happen, but with less damage) these issues are considered avoidance's which the driver should be away of and should have allowed proper time and distance to avoid on the roadway. The same thing would be with potholes and other acts of this nature, which can be avoided.... technically. Unfortunately, I was told these issues are not covered under insurance but the county would have to have a claim filed for damages caused on public roadways.
Its pretty bad when you have to pay the price when someone or something else causes damage to your car that really is out of your control.
