If you're reading this I hope you are a part of OT that knows the difference between nudes and acceptable posts.

Keep it clean people, I think we have lost every female related thread in this forum ( sans the Egypt thing).

Some folks just don't understand. This is a PG/PG-13 forum.
    R and NC-17 aren't acceptable. That's what 4chan is for.
There are no old Porsches - just new owners.

I don't know what nudes there were in the last two pages of that thread. Maybe that video with the wet tshirt was too close?

I think ass floss + beef curtains poking out are usually what shuts down the studio.

I will refrain from commenting about the moderators for the sake of not wanting to get banned

ah screw it I have never been banned from a forum before lol

Why can the moderators not correct the issue and then let the thread continue where MOST of the people are following the rules?

Why do the moderators remove the offensive material and THEN lock the thread? But leave most of the content there.

If it is really a problem then just change the damn rules to not allow "those" threads at all. Honestly it is not hard to go elsewhere and find the material, but the threads here are cool because of the "personalities" involved and the discussion with the other board members.

If it is really too hard to moderate the threads when a small minority of people cause issues how about promote a couple more moderators to reduce the load on the current moderators?

    Just wondering..............

The moderators are following a set of rules, I don't have a problem with that.

I would agree though that it should be the poster that gets punished with a ban and not the whole forum by eliminating the thread.

I do not have a problem with following rules and the Moderators performing their moderating..... my problem is exactly like you are saying....

PUNISH the poster who is breaking the rules.....
STOP locking and/or BH'ing threads when someone breaks the rules.

Some of the threads the mod's have done that to have been around for months or like the Crush of the Week thread was around for around a year and a half......

why can't the mods just punish the people who screw up and not punish everyone?

    just wondering.....

So here is a novel concept.... the mod's could punish just THAT poster.... and NOT everyone else

We correct it as we see fit; sometimes it is by removing inappropriate content, sometimes by locking the thread, sometimes by removing the thread entirely.

We have our reasons. Sometimes there is content that other users can actually use, or we feel would be beneficial, but because the thread devolved, it is decided to lock the thread so the beneficial content can remain. If reopened it "could" go downhill again, and we don't want that.

The “rules” for posting in OT (which, by the way, were established prior to the forum being reinstated here):

    ***Rules-For-Posting-In-The-Off-Topic-Forum***

And a disclaimer, clearly bolded, so it could easily be read by everyone (with or without spectacles):

    NSFW threads are NOT allowed.
Please note, that though they are not specifically mentioned, the same could be said for NSFW posts.

And a post from another administrator:
    Everyone-

I just had to remove a thread from here which had links to pornography, borderline pornographic pictures, and some other like things in it.

We will *NOT* be tolerating things like that, even in OT. This forum is not a place to do whatever you want, and our rules are still in force here.

Anyone posting pornographic material here will be banned, no warnings.
    …and another:

    Also, folks:

Though this is the "Off Topic" forum, some of you need to go re-read the part in my first post where I mentioned that our rules are still in force here.

This is not the Sex Lounge, or the Disgusting Pictures Lounge, or the Let's See How Far We Can Push The Limits Lounge. This forum exists for talking about things that don't fit in other places, and while we are a little more loose in here with what we allow than other places, please keep in mind that our rules do still apply here.

    Thanks.

It's not overly difficult to moderate the forums; if you notice, there are a few dozen moderators/Global moderators/Administrators, and thousands of users. Some forums have more moderators than others, due to the sheer amount of traffic that is driven to them. The OT is more "loose" than other forums, and I rather enjoy coming in here from time to time to laugh a bit, and even, occasionally, get some beneficial information from a thread or post. And while most users on here are rule abiding members who only want to do what's within the boundaries of the rules, it becomes a problem when those few that don't desire to abide by the rules decide to step out of the box. And when they decide to step outside the box the "report this post to a moderator" button is pushed (often times by several people) and we get a report. We're not on here 24/7, as we have lives outside the internet, but we do what we can as quickly as we can.

We don't get any special benefits, discounts, or even paid for what we do; we do it because we want to. And just like the users, we, as moderators, are from very diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. We make judgement calls and decisions every day that are based on both the rules of the forum as well as how the thread/post will impact other people based on the content or picture, or both. But we have bosses as well, and are watched constantly by users and administrators alike to make sure we are doing our job without bias.

It's a thankless job that we do, but I enjoy doing it, and wouldn't have it any other way...

Could some consistency go along with the moderating? just wondering....

easy solution.... find the troublemakers and smack down the BANHAMMER after one warning with bans progressively getting longer..... why punish the rest of the people who behave? is it too hard to keep track of who causes the problems (/sarcasm)... is the issue really that it is just easier to lock the thread and punish everyone (including the people who follow the rules.... just saying)

not to be a jerk but it seems like you want a pat on the back and an "atta boy"
normal rational people realize what being a moderator is and that you aren't paid and... blah blah blah....
sorry I am really not trying to be a jerk but would you like a cookie for being a moderator?

it is a thankless job but it is one that all of you moderators signed up for and don't expect sympathy for it

my whole point is...... why punish everyone (including the people who play by the rules) and why not JUST go after the people that are breaking the rules? also why is there seemingly no consistency?

Also why i appreciate your work that much more but I have to ask why policy doesn't dictate banning a person who is in violation of the rules and allowing a thread to continue.

Because shutting a thread down is easier than going through a thread page by page to determine who's doing right and who's doing wrong. It's also fairer because if a mod thinks butt floss + no meat curtains is ok but a thong + meat curtains is not ok then you open up all this wacky interpretations and crap.

would you rather have us close the OT? moderation will never be as consistent as members want or think how it should be

we have guidelines for moderators but every situation is different.

there is a LOT of tolerance in the OT...in fact we have instructed mods to back off a bit but that seemed to have backfired as members thought they could post whatever they wanted.

now that we have dedicated mods for the OT, it's not going to be a wild west situation. threads are locked when it's deemed that it would be a waste of time to clean up

simple rules folks...follow them. if not, you don't have to be here

consistency really is not that hard.....

tolerance is good.... but you can't tolerate a thread for over a year and then just all of a sudden BAM lock it because one or a couple people post bad things... OBVIOUSLY the thread didn't have a problem if it was around for six months.... a year.... or longer....

have the mods back off.... have the mods be super strict.... whatever I don't care.... just be consistent and clearly define the rules.... especially since there are dedicated mods to Off Topic it should not be that hard now right?

simple idea.... punish ONLY the people who are causing the problems.... BAN people (for progressively longer periods) that keep breaking the rules

    don't punish everyone....

I think most of us understand this. The only issue is taking the short cut of locking a thread because of poor posting by other members. I think 99.99 % of us understand the rules set forward. I have an issue with that percentage being punished by some random douche who stumbles upon the thread.

Based on my unscientific observations of how the OT forum has negatively affected traffic in the rest of the forums, yes. Shut it down.

Care to explain/back up your opinion a little bit more..... or do you just not like OT?

So should we be clicking the report button or not? If that just gets threads shut down instead of getting the thread cleaned and the idiot banned, then I won't use the report button.

With lax rules in the OT forum, new threads that already fit into other "community" forum categories (food, music, movies, tv, cars, travel, for example) get posted to the OT forum at the expense of the other forums.
It's not "Off Topic" if there's an existing VMG forum for it.
Move out non-OT threads, and OT would just be the Bodily Fluid forum.

    Yeah not quite....

So where would we post about the stupid criminals? the cop hating threads? the politcal threads? the crush of the week (oh yeah that got locked *rolleyes*)? I can keep giving you examples but I don't want to put the time or energy into it, I am sure you get my point...... also consider sometimes threads get moved to OT BY THE MODS because it is not fitting where it was originally posted to.....

I understand your point, but you are drastically oversimplifying the situation

It's easy, forget the password to your photobucket account - My phone uploads every picture taken or received automatically... Various pictures of ex's, hookups, friends and I can't even sign in
I've got a bunch of high end vintage audio gear I'm clearing out, restored Marantz 4270 - better than new condition; Pioneer SX-5590, 8/10; Concept 16.5, 8/10 cosmetically - 10/10 function. Various high end vintage speakers: Rectilinear Research, AR, Kenwood, Infinity, McIntosh, Leslie 251. PM me for details, clearing out to finance home theater upgrade.

It must be a guy thread-starter thing. I posted a boob thread, and there were no boobs in it.
