So last friday (20th) I got my the APR stage 1 tune put on my car at NGP Aberdeen. On my way out of the shop I started having symptoms that resembled a fouled plug. At the two stop signs I came to my car died.

I turned back to have the fellas at NGP investigate problem.

About 20 minutes later the tech that had been problem shooting my issue told me that a boost pipe with a quick connector blew itself off. Something that he had never seen before. (thanks again for your help guys)

    -Fast forward one week-

I'm on my way home this afternoon and I start getting the same feeling (lack of power and slight bucking/misfiring feeling) I had last week.

It got dark outside before I could take a look, so I'm curious what you all think.

Could it be this mysterious boost pipe? If so which one do you think it may be (I already checked the one that goes into the "stage II" pipe, and that one is connected). Also, any thoughts on how to make the quick connector stay with my increased boost?

Otherwise, what are the symptoms of a ruined DV?

Any other thoughts are appreciated, especially if you've encountered this issue.

Current Mods: APR Stg I intake, APR Stg I flash (running 93 oct right now), no other engine mods....

    Thanks for your time

Since you just developed this problem when you had the APR Stage 1 flash ... I suggest to take your car back to NGP ... they will definitely find out what is causing your boost leak. These guys are pretty straight up and very professional and stand behind their products and service. Good luck and hope you get this issue resovled soon.

I'm just speculating right now as it got dark too soon to get her up on jack stands and poke around. But the last time I similar symptoms it was related to a boost hose popping off (as according to the awesome NGP tech, I really mean that they were pretty much bada$$es up there)

So I just figured I'd ask on here to see if anyone else had these things come up.

But alas, one of the joys of Dub ownership is that we all have our unique gremlins running around

    Okay,

So yesterday I checked all of the boost hoses in the engine bay, put her up on jack stands and pulled the wheel to check the outlet pipe and all the various connections around the turbo.

Nothing seemed out of place, loose, or broken...

So I buttoned everything back up and put her back down to check the plugs.

The plugs all had a decent about of carbon on them, but it honestly wasn't that bad...I've seen much worse. Nonetheless I went ahead and cleaned them off since they were already out.

Put those back in and hooked everything back up.

Climbed inside and cleared the fault code, did a throttle body alignment for s**ts and giggles.

Started her up, and this time I could feel the stuttering during the idle. I decided to try to go down the street and back, and the check light and EPC/Check Engine now warnings came on. Got back to the driveway and started trying to think what the frick else it could be...

I decided maybe, if I got a bad batch of gas last go round that could be causing the misfire feeling, so I put it back in the stock tune...still no dice.

So, any other ideas floating around out there? Or is it time for me to find a friend with a VAGCOM/ go play at the dealer's tomorrow?

I'm betting a coil is dead. Do you know what the fault was?

Does the car feel like it's misfiring? Do you have exhaust modifications? I only ask because if so it will make it more audible/easier to hear.

I have VCDS and would be more than happy to help but you're about 50 miles away from me =(

I have had 2 die on me. The first time the issue happened, if I put the car into stock mode the coil handled fine. Only in Stage II mode did the coil show signs of failure. That might be why you're suddenly experiencing this issue after the tune. It's probably not BECAUSE of the tune, rather the tune just is letting you see it.

I may take you up on your offer with the promise of some beers and food depending on what the dealer says tomorrow. It really feels/seems like a misfire to me, I don't have a VCDS to scan it, but that was the first thing I assumed. The only exhaust mod I have is a rear muffler delete.

After reading about the issue it sounds like it could be the coils, the throttle body assembly, or the intake manifold.

I am hoping it isn't too bad, but I'm not too concerned because I don't think that anything was messed up by the NGP guys, they just oozed professionalism and care for their customer's cars.

I'll pop back in after I find out what is up tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer though, I appreciate it.

Dealer identified the problem. Cylinder 3 coil failed. Problem fixed under warranty. Now I just have to go pick my baby up!
