im looking for any helpful info or ideas to add to my build
tt =3 intake +2 exhaust valve kit
tt 288 cams
megasquirt 3
2.9 clone
ported exhaust manifold
tt 2.5 down pipe to 2.5 catless exhaust with duel side exit turbo mufflers
ported tb
stock rebuilt bottom end
10lb flywheel
ford coilpack conversion
copper plugs
autotech shock therepy wires
gutted interior
quaife lsd
i have all of this exept mega squirt and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas what else could help my build make more power im not going to turbo this car i want to push the vr6 motor and see what i can produce
thanks for any input

I hit 198whp no matter what I didI would consider a different intake manifold if your goals are above 200whp.

Yea, that intake needs to go if you're going to MS.
I wouldnt go with that valve kit.
#5
stock valves size is the best with those tt cams.....
a short runner intake manifold will put you at over 200whp with the proper tune.

i dont see how thats possible techtonics tuning had the same all motor set up minus the ford coil conversion and autotech wires making 278 whp and running 11.5s iv seen the videos and colin at techtonics said the cam and valve combo nets about 45 hp so theres no way im not breaking 200 cause im dynod at 201 right now with bolt ons and a stock motor

Bernd's 12v never made that kind of power. The 24v did/does.
Many struggle with the 200whp barrier, there are ways across and a stock type manifold is not part of it.

i am going to try to hit atleast 240 and i think thats reasonable and if not ill throw some methonal into the mix and that will deff put me past the 270 mark in any event the engine is in im going to brak it in and then put my 2.9 on cause i havent finished it yet and then ill dyno it and ill post it it will probably be about two or three weeks i appriciate all the feed back thanks guys

heat tape
the intake spacer
port match ur manifolds
run a external oil cooler
ceramic coat the manifold and exhaust housing engine temp down
if u lift the back of ur hood up 1 inch it drops the bay temp 20 plus degrees
230 to 200 -207

ok so i have a problem i think lol i know on big blocks and most engines big cams and valves make more valvetrain noise so my question is for someone root beer or one of you guys how loud is a vr with the 288 cams and the valve setup i listed form 2 to 4k iv got alot of valve noise i can hear it in the car while driving and my car is pretty loud any body got some input for that
my head work was done at a machine shop i used a stock head gasket followed all specs and procedures all timing is spot on and in spec and everything in the engine besides the pistons rods and crank are new
#14
Could be a stuck lifter, see if any are squished down.
Also, what is the bottom setup? With 288s my exhaust valves hit my pistons and self-clearanced but that was stock block. If you have less clearance you might have bent valves. I would check compression.

tt cams and bigger valves tend to dont like each other.

compression is 153 across the board completly stock bottom end and car runs great minus the noise i checked the lifters and i dont see any failures

Its odd because the noise started after I broke the engine in it only makes it when its a running temp and only from 2-4k at idle u can't even hear a noise with a stethoscope and the only other thing I can think of is I can hear the noise in the exhaust also like through the whole system iv never heard a noise like this
#21
I put it to 7k and it didn't miss a blink and I've already raced my buddys r33swaped 240 and killed it that's y I'm confused normally a noise like I'm hearing corraltes to a drivability issue but I don't have any
#22
Ok so I was looking at the situation and the only thing I think that could cause that type of noise in the area of the car is the throwout bearing my reasoning is this it changes with rpm but is not present at idle I have no drivabilty issues and the noise could echo threw the timimg cover and resonante tstumps me is how I can hear it hrough the vavle cover the the only part that stumps me is the fact I can hear it in my exhaust
So any thoughts on this
#23
so it is something in the head i got it to blow blue smoke so either its the rings or a head issue im going to perform a cylinder leakage test and figure out which cylinders are failing im fairly sure its in the head because thats where the noise is i appriciate all the help u guys gave thanks a bunch

If the machine shop used aftermarket guides without modifying them, its likely you have some crushed valve seals.

Hey just out of curiosity what lifters are u guys running with the big cams cause I had complete lack of power from 5 to 8 and I believe it was my lifters not keeping up
#26
Does the tt valve kit still have to be modifies I figured if I bought the kit that kind of stuff would be delt with by tt
#27
Yes, some aftermarket guides have a lip that keeps them from being pressed in to far. I used those light weight lifters, I think they were INA brand, and never experienced a lack of power anywhere. To be honest, I never took the car to 8k due to the chip limiter and stock intake manifolds, but still… even between 6000-7000rpm those 288 cams were making some decent power; the same shift points yielded consistently quicker ET’s. I’m sure there was even more on tap but I just couldn’t take full advantage of what was there with my set up at that point in time.
#28
I believe I had a oil pressure issue I ended up tearing the engine down andings cylinder 5 was scored real bad all my bearings were destroyed and rod bearing in 5 had spun I took the head to the shop it checks ok so I'm going to start over with another block and try this **** again
#29
I hit 201 on a beat bottom end on a stock intake manifold and smaller cams. That was before my 3in and custom header was on. This was done on giac chipped ecu.
i know 240whp on a 12v can happen. However ive only seen it on stand alone and a short runner with alot of other work but still street driven. I do not think you will hit anyware close to 240 or 270 with what you are working with now. However good luck.
