I started building the lift for my old honda 300 about a week ago. I have the upper arms tacked up and hope to get the lowers done in the next week or two. I went over board and used 1" .120 wall DOM tubing......mainly cause thats wat I had laying around. It should have around 18" of ground clearance under the frame when its all said and done. In the pic the upper arms look to be at different angles, but I assure you they are within 1/2 a degree of one and other.I bent the rear of the upper arm to allow for tie rod clearance. The axles will be sleeved until I can afford aftermarket custom length axles. The rear swing arm and drive shaft have been lengthened 4" to gain lift while maintaining acceptable u-joint angles. I'll try to add more as I build......but I'm pretty bad about making build threads. Don't mind the messy garage or the scrap metal used to jig up the front end......

Got both the lower arms done....but only made 4 a arm bushing. I need to order more delrin to make more bushings so I can mount up the other side at the same time. Looking to be about a 6" lift.
When I mounted up the right side and cycled the suspension I was surprised at the arc.....the arm mounting brackets are angled as in the front bracket is higher than the rear so the arm moves up and back. I need to mock up some tie rods so I can see how the arc will effect bump steer.

I got the arms welded out, the axle sleeves tacked up, and one tie rod welded. I just got a little more 3/4" rod so I can finish the other tie rod.
Next will be shock mounts......

Are the CVs going to be able to handle those sorts of angles without binding?

ya, CV's bind at 35-36*.....they the ride height will have them at about 31-32* and max extension will have them at about 34*
I can get some aftermarket extended axles with CVs that go to over 40*........so I'll upgrade at a later date.

Almost done.....all thats left is welding out the left axle and getting some new brake lines made up.

YES SIRRRRR!!!! Got it sitting on its 28" new tires. Just need to get a brake line tomorrow and install the transfer case and main front drive shaft. Sitting here the axles are at about 31*, I was afraid I might have messed up the axle angles but I got them right where I wanted them. I don't know how much I ended up lifting the front......but I'm happy with it.
I'm a pretty laid back kinda guy, I don't get exited for too much, but I can't wait to ride this beast. I got a massive mud hole a mile from my house thats calling my name....
Yes....that is a 5 gal bucket
Looks like I might have to pick the back up a bit.....we'll see though

If you made the track width wider the axles wouldnt be at such a angle. they look like they are maxed out at that height. other wise looks like fun![]()

The CVs are fine. With a lift like this you want to have the CVs just under maxed out to allow for the narrowest width possible. I do intend to get a set of high end gorilla axles one day, they have CVs that can go to 40*.
I got a new brake line made up, installed it and bled the brakes and took it out for a short shake down. Rode well, handled ok for a monster bike. The suspension is pretty stiff, almost too stiff. The shocks are off a bigger bike, but I had them on before the a arm lift and they were much softer. Previously they were mounted to the outside of the a arm right at the ball joint, I would have thought that mounting the shock up the arm a bit would have added some leverage and made the suspension more soft??????
Anyway, I still have to play around with the set up a bit but it is a success.
