I have a 2011 jetta s. I know its 115 hp but if I didnt tell you, you would know driving it. I see them with 200,000 miles on them all the time. I wonder thought? When driving it always shifts at 4-5 rpms that must be bad. Is the engine really bulletproof like some say or will the high rpms kill it??????

You should have gotten a manual.

I love the 2.0 motor...most other owners do as well.

Im assuming because of the little amount of horsepower, you're trying to give it too much power than it can handle so its shifting at higher RPMs. Ease off the pedal when you are driving. See if that makes a difference. When I test drove a manual 2.0, it was gutless, so I wanted to keep pressing the pedal down more than the car could really handle. Im assuming its the same way with automatic 2.0's.

Yes, the 2.0 automatic (fun though it may be) pretty much demands pedal through the floorboard driving at times, but I much prefer it to my MkIV VR6 that I never knew what I was going to get when I hit the pedal. I really grew to hate that car.

Yes. It's vw's most reliable, underpowered, bulletproof-joke at about 26 pounds per HP.

    The 2.5L 5 Cyl
Isn't much better on Automatic mode. If i try to make it go faster it will shift at 4000-5000k.
Aka i am trying to out press the RPM limiter and Acceleration lag I will shift at 4-5k rpms.
Given mine is a lot peppier than my friends 2.0 Slow, And my car really goes when it does shift after all its Eco and safe consumption Lag, where as the 2.0 does not.

Now if i drive normal like a civilized person it shifts at 2-3k rpm.

Dump my Automatic into S mode, my entire RPM band now idles almost 1k higher than normal.
And Taking of the line is quite event full.

Then I always have the Tipronic mode to play with Launching at 1st gear makes tires chirp LOL
Wonder if EPS switch works on automatic.

Like others have said, you may be gassing it a bit too hard, but you shouldn't be hurting it; the engine is very reliable. Your biggest risk is getting poor gas mileage. Check to see that you're not in Sport Mode. That would make your shift points higher.

But what's far worse than 4-5k shifts is shifting at like 2-2.5k. Some early 2.0L's with autos (think early MkIII) were programmed to go into overdrive too soon for MPG purposes, but this runs the risk of ruining the bearings; my sister's '95 Golf would run in overdrive going uphill at 25 mph... not good for longevity. But, despite that, most of those engines lasted forever, so yours should be good to go.
