Good all around bike, R6 motor with a different tune, good wind protection and decent handling. Standard bike with a screamer motor basically. Only complaints I've heard have to do with the gauges being hard to see.

So I am going to look at a '09 Yamaha FZ6 tomorrow night. It has 600 miles on it, the seller is asking $6,000 and says he is 'negotiable'. From a brief search, this seems pretty fair considering the almost new mileage on the bike. What can you guys tell me about this bike. I am looking at it because from what I've read it is a good mid-size bike for newer riders. I also am a fan on the more upright seating position which this bike offers. It will be my second bike, currently I am riding a Honda CRF230m. any input is appreciated.

I bought one back in 07 for my first bike. All around great. The gauges were improved in 07
believe, they originally featured a circular design that was not popular with many riders. It is a torquey bike, has a nice power band.
OEM windscreen left much to be desired, a lot of people upgrade to the Puig one. I did, and went with the "race" model, I like it.
They sound great with an exhaust as well, they're pretty quiet from the factory, I put on a 2 brothers and it was a nice deep tone,

I do not really see this as being true since it does not build power until after 7K. And certainly not something you'd say if you've ever ridden a twin. Not meant to be offensive at all, it's just that I test rode one and was unimpressed with it's off the line acceleration. My SV650 was a hoot off the line. The FZ6 has all it's power in the upper half of the RPM band.
OP, in my opinion, it would make for a good beginners bike. Comfy ergos, a motor that eases you into the powerband, wind protection, etc. The 07+ are more desirable too because of better brakes, nicer looking aesthetics, and of course much better gauges.
Good luck and make sure to wear all your gear too.![]()
