did u try cleaning idle control valve ?
I have a OBD1 MK3 Jetta 94 150k~
When I turn the key the car starts up but dies right when the needle hits 1000rpm but when I give it some gas at least 3 - 4k rpm it stays at idle but drives normally after that.
Anyone else have an issue like this I'm trying to figure out the exact cause before I start buying/replacing parts....maybe its something in the fuel lines???
Any help is appreciated
Cleaned out everything the throttle MAF and ICV and it runs beautiful now and starts. It is still not starting completely normal but cleaning the ICV def helped and it fixed my crazy idle. If it the problems come back I guess I will be looking to replace the ICV, but thanks for the suggestion everyone should clean theres out just make sure you let it dry out before you put it back in
Glad to to suggest you and also what i would do in your place is to seafoam engine trough vacuum lines and in a gas tank too. That helps a lot with idle issues in some cases. Of course its best to do full tune up, replace a fuel filter and all that crap but cheapest option to start with is try it with seafoam and it works wonders.
bumping for update so now I have replaced spark plugs wires distriutor cap/rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump and some other none related parts since i've made this thread. Also cleaned out the MAF and ICV and throttle body with carb cleaner and it does run a hell of a lot better but still getting some problems.
When I start the car it does start usually but sometimes I have to pound the gas to get it started and when I dont and start it normally I start it needle drops all the way to zero rpms then revs back up and starts but usually when it's cold or hasnt been started early in the day it will just drop and not come back up unless i slam the gas. Also the other day after going highway speeds slowing down to almost complete stop I tried going back up a slight hill and it lost complete power and the CEL came on, but without turning off the car it got it's power back about 30 seconds later and the light turned off and everything seemed normal again.
What could this be caused by my only guess would be crankshaft sensor?
any help is appreciated thanks
