I was just wondering how easy it would be to get a good amount of power out of a chevy 350 but nothing too wild. All I want is something that will snap your head back on the street and run maybe 12-14 sec on the drag strip. In my 78 k10 which is pretty heavy. Im also thinking about making it 2wd with a decent stance. Kind of like a little rat rod / hot rod kinda thing. I know you can do all the bolt on stuff, but how much power would that add, and what is generally the next step as far as internals? Also would I have to change anything else to support any light mods? Thanks in advance. Any help at all is appreciated!

For a 350, A big bore kit would help. would make it to a 383, and heads, heads would help allot! You could have about 420hp like that, and don't forget cam, carburetor,Exhaust, And if that's not enough, Supercharger lol,

383 is going to be using a 400 SBC crankshaft, biggest a bore on a non-siamesed 350 block is going to net you is like 360 ci.

Also, best off-the-shelf heads for a small block are Air Flow Research (AFR). They're aluminum, really good flow numbers, can be bought pre-P&Pd.

Talk to a company called Camcraft in North Carolina (used to be here where I live). They do custom grinds based on heads, intake, displacement, etc. The guy is a genius. Used to cut cams for NASCAR East, and cuts for a lot of big-time tractor pull teams.

Here's my recommendation: buy a 400 SBC, get it bored .030, get a good set of aluminum heads and run 11:1 compression (edge of pump gas with ali heads on a small-block), use good bottom end components and get it balanced, run a roller cam. You'll build an honest 500 hp on the combo I'm discussing (I dyno'd over 500 wheel on a similar setup but 11.5:1 with cast heads and a 50/50 fuel blend of 93 and 100 from the local Sunoco). I also spin it 7500, but I've got a good crank and rods, and sent it to another excellent local guy (House of Balance) before assembling everything.

And what kind of life can I expect out of something like that? Is all that gonna stress out the engine pretty good?

Yes. Fast, Reliable, Inexpensive. Pick two of those. The rules apply even to domestics.

edlebrock top end kit on a 327 made our 1980 malibu run a best 11.80s

add a bottle to it and you should be able to get that heavy thing into the 11s

355 with a good set of heads (afr/dart pro1s etc) intake, cam, and carb will make over 400hp

If you want to get really crazy you can start looking into the 18/15* or sb2 stuff - but now we are talking 10k motor +
    Boiler Up!

Make it three yards mother****er and we'll have an automobile race
