Thread: Appropriate Wera tools kit for work on MKIV?

  1. 04-28-2012 11:24 PM #1
Want to pick up one of the comprehensive Wera Zyclops ratchet kits for my getting around the GLI. Can't decide on the 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 drive. I'm thinking 3/8 because I have a Makita impact driver that's 3/8 already. Anyone have an expert, or journeyman opinion?

What kinds of things do you want to do to the gli? If its just trim and interior work i'd suggest the 1/4in set. There are adapters that go from 3/8 to 1/4 to work with your drill driver.

I feel comfortable to try moderate work under the hood through the DIY guides. Replaced the failing ignition coils on my Wolfsburg. I'd like to get comfortable enough to try more on my own.

If your going to be doing work on the engine i'd suggest the 3/8 kit then. The 1/4in kit is nice for interior/ trim work. The 3/8 will get most engine and engine related bolts off. Do you have a web link to the kits?

The kits nice. A little pricy in my opinion. If I were you i'd go with one of these sets: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...int+blpgssc155 and then pick up a full set of torx bits and a triple square bit set. For all of these you'll still be under the price of the one you posted and have more tools. The blue point tools are like a starting set of snap-on. Great for diy and home auto repair.

yeah that is a very steep price. i wouldn't pay that much for such a small tool kit you are better off going with the blue point. its a trusted name with a lifetime warranty.
