Thread: Introduction

  1. 04-29-2012 11:09 AM #1
    Hello all!

Im the new guy here, so I thought I would introduce myself. I am John Marsh from a northern suburb of Atlanta, GA. I purchased my first VW 4 days ago from Gunther VW in Buford, GA.

Since I am in this forum, it is obviously a 2012 Passat, SE with sunroof. I got black on black. I will get some pics up in a few days. Already have wheels on the car, and debadged the trunk. The windows are getting tinted on tuesday (i think).

I am married (almost 14 years, this August) to a native "Georgia Peach" with a 4-year old son, and 2 cats. My hobby and career (mostly) since college has been car audio. I have been active in organized sound quality competition since 1995, and have been lucky enough to earn a total of 6 National Sound Quality Championsips. 2 in 1 organization (SLAP), and 4 in another (IASCA). The IASCA Championships include 3 consecutive Pro Ultiamte wins, and most recently an Expert class SQ Championship.

I love music, and the challenges of making a car sound great.

Thats about it for now....more later, to include pics.

I see that your forte' is QUALITY of sound, not LOUDNESS!! Congrats!!! I was a jet engine mech in the USN for 20 years and can personally attest to the way loud sounds can affect your quality of life! Try to remember to be sure to wear some sort of hearing protectors if you are exposed to loud sound. When your hearing is compromised, there's no turning back.

I can vouch for that after 40 plus years working on tugboats.

Bud, were you ever on the Midway, CVA 41?

TDI, the only reason to own a Volkswagen.

    Here is the new car:

The dealer had a set of 20" TSWs on a display Passat on the showroom floor, so I asked them to put them on the black one I was buying...added a few dollars each month, but whatever.

Congrats on your new Passat. I too had a beautiful Black on Black V6 until some idiot totaled it a couple weeks back. I am leaning toward replacing it with a Candy White/Black Interior, but seeing your pictures has me second guessing.

    Anyways, welcome to the forum!

What brand of vent visors did you go with? I like the look of them (low profile)! I just haven't pulled the trigger. I've been looking at the WeatherTech's....

Do your window deflectors add to wind noise? Mine did and I took them back off. Ugh. They were quiet on my Tiguan.

My visors are from ebay. They were about $65 for the set shipped from across the pond. Quality is pretty good, and fitment is between fair and good. I like that they are lower profile than others I have had in the past (on other cars/trucks). I like they had the chrome trim built in.

I got what I paid for, and not much more. Read into that as much as you would like....

They did add a bit of noise, but not too much. Its a fair trade IMO for the look and fuctionality of the visors. I do not smoke, but like the fresh air sometimes.

Okay, I see. I had the weathertech ones and they go within the window channel and added a bit of noise. I'm not a smoker either, and I wanted them for the same reason.
