turbo failure?

i just bought a b5 s4... just sold my gli. im reading and hearing a lot of different things about how theyre notorious for premature turbo failure. anyone experience this? im just trying to play it say because i dont have 5k+ to pull the motor and swap out the old k03s and buy new ones... let me know what you guys have experienced/heard/etc. thanks

From what iv heard k03's are usually good for around 100k but many last way more then that. I'm at 145k and just start started making noise on cold starts. I also run stage 2 software spikes at 22 and holds 20. That's ally for k03's I bet you'll be ready for them when they go. And for 5k you could go stage 3 or replace the k03's with k03's cheap enough. Iv found 20k millage k03's for 200 bucks

They are maintenance hogs tho iv probably put 5-10k into just maintenance in 3-4 years

thanks for the info. its an 01.5, 75k miles, not tuned or anything but i plan on it. i heard once you tune then the risk of turbo failure increases significantly

well like regular maintenance like timing belt/ wp and tune ups? or unexpected things like turbos going..?

Ya your fine for a while if it's stock at 75k you'll probably upgrade them before they even go haha iv had to rebuild my heads from a timing belt so I'm a different story but sensors go and costly front end kits dv's the trans have soft 1-2 gears so be carefully and once you start packing on power things break ya know You'll probably have slot of people chime in on this if they want

Im going to looking for an s4 also with the most recent maintance jobs done to it and prob get the samco 12 piece boost kit for it what other things you think i should keep an eye for...any info be much apreciated
